Ten Years

So, who still actually owns and rides a GS? Do you still have the yellow peril Ronno?

1150gs, blue and white (though thinking about selling it and getting a Bonneville, time for something lighter I think after 8 years, something a wee bit different)

As of this evening I'm GSless. After 10½ years and 93,000 miles it feels odd not seeing it in the garage. Already wondering if I've done the right thing.

What you got/getting?

Myself and JIMCG were around in 2002 when folks like Stumpy et al were around and Dufftown was the centre of the GS universe. Had to change account for some reason but still around in the background, still on a beemer (RT).

Yam Super Ten, a bit like a BM 1200 but with built in reliability.

Nice :thumb, I had a look at one at the Scottish M/C Show.

I've still got both GS' - the 1989 100 GS 'Bumblebee' and the 2004 1150 Adventure (also black & yellow).

I think I joined UKGS in 2005 when I bought the 100GS. I remember meeting Ronno for the first time in the pub toilets during one of Farmer Palmer's East Lothian semi-off-road trips :augie.

Packer was on that trip as well as I recall .

These days I'm more into 'Classics', having a 1958 Ariel 'VH', a 1931 P&M Panther 500 restoration project and a Triumph T20 in bits. The GS' still get used, I went to the Bristol Classic Bike Show at Shepton Mallet in Feb on the 1150 - a good trip.

Its all very quiet on this site these days. I suppose I should try and organise something instead of waiting for others to take the initiative :rob.

Bob.

21st June 2004 for me, I can remember when the 1200 section was titled "The new 1200GS" :beerjug: :D

I`ve only had 3 bikes in 10 years, my 12GS for 6ish, a 1050 Tiger for 2 and my Tiger Explorer for nearly 2 :rob

Bob.

I remember that day as well. I'm sure it was the same day that Forry did a huge wheelie on a dirt track and I was lucky enough to catch it on film.

Aye, we used to have lots of meets. It seemed like one a month for a couple if years but that's probably my memory playing up. I do recall meeting at Blair Atholl one early January and about 20 bikes turned up. Another January meet saw about 15 of us heading up to GCs pub. I think you'd struggle to get that enthusiasm on a sunny July Saturday these days. My bike hardly turned a wheel last year (again) but now that I'm offshore I intend getting out more midweek when I'm home.

Bob will remember that trip with horrific clarity. He tried to do a U-turn on the road into the industrial estate having take one turn too early. Unfortunately the road was covered in black ice and down he went on the GSA.

Personally I think the rot started to set in when a bunch of us met at the BoC hotel one winters day. Car park full of cars and me on the 1150 :P

9 years ago yesterday..doesn't seem that long ago.

I've hardly done any miles in the past two years but have no intension of getting rid of the GS, which I've just put the new tax disc on. Next day out on the bike is next Thursday when it's going in to E.K. for a service.

As soon as the weather picks up I'm going for a blast up to Thurso.
