I have recently upgraded the cam chain tensioner on my 2002 1150 GS.
Trouble I am still getting a noise from it on start up from cold.

Not as bad but it still rattles. I thought the upgrade would eliminate this.
Any ideas

Ged, ive had mine 3 years and its always been a bit rattly on start up. When i first had it, the noise did worry me. I too, have just fitted the camchain tensioner upgrade. I can notice the diffrence but does still rattle a little. My bike has been pampered and has only done 26k. As long as the bike runs ok generally, i believe the rattle is normal for the boxer twin. What makes it more confusing, is that they all sound different, some rattle some dont and the rattles can all be slightly different.

I had a steptoe service on it a couple of years ago during a day he held in the midlands. Steptoe said dont worry so i havent since.

It's an often stated cliche but they really do 'all do that'.
I fitted the upgrade to my 1100 and it helped but it still rattled a bit from cold until things had started circulating and warmed up.

My 2012 TC does the same.

Plus ca change...

I've had half a dozen 1150s and it's certainly not a case of 'they do that' just that some do and some don't. :)

I bow to the experience of Tim ;)

It was a post born from the bitter fact that my current bike rattles from cold after about 20 seconds and continues for a couple of minute then runs silky smooth
:D

Throttle bodies also rattle a bit if worn, especially the left one. If you look down on it when it's running you may be able to see it chattering or wobbling so indicating wear.

It's the right-side throttle body that tends to rattle the most. The left side is "damped" by the TPS unit.

I've replaced both tensioners but it still likes a bit of a rattle at cold (and warm sometimes) start, has a bit of a clackity clack for a few seconds then goes quiet with another softer random tick starting about seconds later and lasts for a similar time . Once warmed up it's quiet and smooth :D
Always starts quieter when on the sidestand though
