Tested a 1200gs this afternoon, well I was disapointed to say the least,
Went out of the carpark up on to the m-way heading west 70-80 mph and all the plasticks were rattling screen, tank badges black plastic panels on the side of the tank, vibes through the bars, and foot pegs, and not as much power as i thought it would be. It did'nt seem that much diffrence from my 1100, a bit softer through the gears and riding through town on and off the throttle, was better, but i did think the quality was not as good as my 1100,
built to a budget came to mind, but at £9,995 second hand, 56 plate 1200 gs its a lot of money for what it is. The ali bmw paniers and top box were nice and the aux lighting but they don't make the bike they only personalise it for you to you'r touch. I honestly thought this was going to be my next step in the bmw world but after riding the 1200 I think not. I will stick to my 1100 gs, and if i do fancy a change it will be the 1150 for me and not the 1200.

PS This is only my oppinion

GSA 1200

Hi Al
did this bike happen to be the one in M&P Gorseinon,i had a look at it the other day to compare it price wise to my 1200 gsa.I thought it looked more like a 100,000 mile bike than the 6k bike it was.The bike was absolutely filthy, looked as though it had never been washed,as for the price,i think they are having a laugh, maybe its a way of testing the market for used bmw`s before they allegedly become BMW main dealers.

Doesn't sound right Al,test another one to compare it with, you'll enjoy a 1200 if it's on song I'm sure ;)

Hi Al
M&P Gorseinon............... before they allegedly become BMW main dealers.

Oh god no  please not that :spitfire

£9995 for 56 plate 1200GS is well overpriced. A brand new one with ABS and heated grips comes in at just under £200 more at £10190.

Al all you have to do is ask, and give mine a blast. Nowt rattles on mine. Only yer teeth and fillings from the exhaust :augie :D:D Its as solid as yer like and has plenty of omph!!! I can tel yer as can the blokey on the R1 last weekend out of LLandovery :D I would of got his number but couldn't be bothered to stop. I actually thought he was an unmarked copper, untill I saw the blue tinted screen and 2 inch chicken strips on the sides of his tyres :tosser

Thanks guy's you'r probably right I might go and test another one just to compare the two, but if I'm honest it has put me off a little about the 1200, but I will go and test another one judt for curiosity's sake.

Too Bloody right it is. I paid £8900 for a 57 plate with all the bells & whistles !
6 months old, 500 miles on clock.

do as these other guys suggest Al. :thumb2I have just traded up to the 1200GS I agree that the bike is not as robust as my 1150 was but it is 30Kg lighter, so there is a trade off. The upshot is this The bike is quicker than my 1150. Balance about perfect. you can ride the thing on any road and feel in total control. If you say the thing is rattling then walk. Mine has 15800 on the clock and as smooth as Leslie Philips. Non ABS ( much less to go wrong) 5,500quid bought from This club, Forum or whatever and in very good nick with BMW service history. So I would suggest RUN very quickly ....away, good luck in your search. Dave.:thumb2:beerjug:

I had a go on an 08 GS1200 at the weekend and liked it!! It was more Vibey than my GSA ,tingling fingers after 60 miles ,but felt faster and handled well. I think any bike will vary in the way it rides and running in is important. My GSA uses no oil at all between services and gets hard use when its ridden!!:thumb2
