hi all
has anybody had the update done on their 2019 gs te tft screen if so could I get the soft ware version number as mine is 001-018-040 the reason I'm asking is it was suppose to be updated at the 1st service along with the pro chip (which they forgot to do and my mates bike)as I couldn't receive or make calls the update was suppose to overcome this and guess what still the same. Any info much appreciated

Mate just bought a 2018 rallye and software was upgraded before bike left dealers, it was showing 001-019- and I forgot the last three numbers............:blast

How do I see it? Will check when I finish work as riding home. Just had the update 2 weeks ago.

Yes I had it done at the running in service, though only after some hassle with the dealer. They rang me to say that it was not a free warranty upgrade unless I was having problems with it. I had requested the upgrade because it wouldn't stay paired with my phone - I had not even got as far as trying any other functionality. In any case I also argued that it was a bike bought on March 1st 2019, and so should have been delivered with 2019 software, but instead had the 2018 version yours has.

They did eventually upgrade it, seemingly reluctantly, and it is now version 001_019_180.

Basically it seems you need to tell them about the many and serious problems you are experiencing and demand a warranty upgrade to fix them.

I think the dealers are reluctant to do this work because it involves the bike staying plugged into their diagnostic rig for anything up to 4 hours. Poor design on the part of BMW if the update has to go through the bike's ECU to the TFT via a slow CANBUS link or equivalent. They should have fitted a USB port to the TFT unit so that it could be updated independently of the bike's systems.

Had mine done at its first service it’s now 001_019_180 although it took six hours and they couldn’t move the bike whilst updating, it was FOC though and no reluctance on their part. It does make connecting easier now and I can access the odo trip reset now.
All in I’m very pleased with the bike.

Six hours! Even worse than I thought then - I wonder who was the genius who signed that system off as fit for purpose? Maybe they just thought it would never need updating, because of course we all know that complex software stored in the onboard memory of a relatively new type of device is always right first time! :blast

Or maybe BMW are just looking to sell a lot more diagnostic rigs to dealers.

Bloody hell, what dealer is that? My local dealers do software updates FOC, as long as the bike is still under warranty. It’s not in their interest to have a bike under warranty running old software. :augie

Well now that more and more bikes are fitted with the TFT, which is obviously a complete PITA to upgrade and ties up the dealer's equipment for hours, I can understand why they might try to put you off requesting it, but I wasn't impressed by their attempt to do so, even if they can't really charge you for it. By comparison I suspect updating non-TFT bike's software is probably relatively easy.

Just upgraded mine and it "only" took 3h, it´s a PITA because they can´t do anything else while it´s been done cause the bike has to reset the sensors during the update and has to be still

Yep this is why my dealer told me they charge for the TFT updates now if nothing is broken, the non TFT is free and takes 15 minutes..............:D

Heard similar re the TFT They will however upgrade at service if you request/insist/threaten them, say nothing and it won’t get done

So many things you could say do not work, satnav, pairing etc etc.....so have the white lie box full and be prepared.........:beerjug:

Was my experience.

Mine was free during service, just told them I was having issues with bluetooth pairing, no questions asked

update

thanks for all the reply's the thing that hacked me off was I left bike over night and they still didn't do it, and as per reply they didn't even fit my pro chip until I got bike back and noticed it wasn't fitted, my pal went a week later identical bike and exactly the same issues as mine we fitted the chip ourselves, I will be phoning today to have a rant

I think you are supposed to fit it yourself they told me it was activated and the chip was under the seat.
