As we’re making progress so to speak, it would be rude to stop. So let’s get the timing chain chest buttoned up. Pop a new oil seal in the front cover, grease up the gasket and a big dob of assembly grease on the worm gear, then button it up. Remembering the bottom six bolts are longer than the top ones.

I have another 30 mins before the beer gets really cold, so let’s dive in. No “while I’m doing it” pics of this cos it’s just me and hard to take them while you’re wrestling a short engine and a gearbox.

After a remarkably simple bit of fiddling these together, we have something beginning to look promising.

This pleases me the most.

Hopefully by Saturday evening we’ll have barrels, heads, final drive and wheels back from Mike.

Right a couple of hours spare in a sweltering workshop, time to clean out the sump. It looks clean already doesn’t it? But there’s half a teaspoon of blasting media stuck in there.

And stick a new filter in, remembering to scribe the date on it. I don’t know what the mileage currently is but let’s call it “zero”.

Well this esteemed member of this forum did a very big overhaul of my Cali for my bestie (before I owned it) and like a cat on heat, left his mark............ Some five years later I buy the bike off him and that is what I found in the sump when I serviced it And look at the oil!! Bloody hippies (not the esteemed member), never trust 'em

Do you like the stainless dome nuts holding the gearbox on?

It was either them or aero tight. I think they look a bit more bling.

I know a big block Guzzi sump has a lot of bolts holding it on, but that is a tad excessive.

I believe you may be right on the dome nuts Andres.

TBH I prefer the black alternator cover, go figure.

Anyway I’m back from Mikeyboy with all the remaining parts (and the seed of an idea, but that’s for another thread eh Mike )

And the Silent Hektik ignition arrived.

Let’s start with the wheels.



First the front, need to mount the disc carriers, spacer and new discs.



Mike’s wheel lady has done a great job on these and the stainless spokes set it off nicely.



Discs on, new bolts and aero tight nuts, jobs a good un. Now onto the rear - first replace both the bearings, then rear disc and carrier. Don’t forget the spacer.

These boys are ready to go to see Russ at Russ Tyres in Portsmouth.

If you’re from the school of “let’s drill holes in this to make it better”. You’ll like this bit.

The Cush drive rubbers on these are notoriously stiff.



So let’s drill holes in them to make them better. 10mm and 6mm if you’re interested.



And stick them in the rear hub with a light coating of grease.

Don’t forget the O ring.
