Is that the cattle grid road over the hill, before you get to the T junction where the old petrol station is? Comes out somewhere just before the Brown Cow (Red Cow?) pub.
There's certainly a cattle grid road between Baycliff and Bardsea that leads up a hill, passing the stone circle near the top, I don't know of the old petrol station though.
A few miles away is Dalton in Furness which has a Brown Cow and a Red Lion? It also has a Black Bull and White Horse, colours and animals seem to work there
