The HP2 Sport has landed

thanks for the info on the roads chrispatas (tony) very good of you ... i will keep you posted .. we are not going till july..
had a great ride out today did 200 mile ..the bikes loosening nicelly . brings a smile every time i get on it :)

Eka I hope your bike won't take long too long to fix. I'm looking forward to riding with you one day. Mind you, having watched the video of you on the Ronda road I was wondering if I could keep up until I saw that you had speeded it up. Great video as is the one of the old Malaga access road:thumb2
Hola! That video was made for demonstrate that road for one finnish site and tried to fit in 10 min limit as much as possible of it. I have been in Finland and just come yesterday here in Spain. Just getting some breakfast and will call to garage soon.

They said to call, when it's ready. No calls, so propably nothing happened. :(
Basically there is missing only carbon parts. Subframe was changed last time i was there. It would not be a big job to put it together after they get parts.

OH BUGGER….:blast

That’s another indicator smashed.:tears
I had a great ride last Sunday with my mates. We did some great roads around the Mendips and Salisbury Plain (sorry no pics). But when I was putting the bike in the garage I noticed that another indicator has been smashed by flying road debris (I assume?).

These things are so fragile and if the lens is smashed you have to buy the complete indicator (£30 as I already stated).

turn signals

hi yonkyo
i feel sorry for you ,another one .
went to a bike meet yesterday on mine and parked it with nothing around it ,when i came back there was a bike parked quite close and people were squeezing past it brushing the indicators:( ,well that was it ,had to go:comfort .they are so fragile its beyond believe . maybe with the stones flying up be able to cover the lens with some clear type tape to give it some protection . going to be a expensive year with the lenses at £30 notes a time plus all the hassle going to the dealers time and fuel .
if only they were tucked in 30 mm more .
pb:beerjug:

I must be lucky for my 12,000 miles - no problems with them so far.

I did notice that you can buy the same torpedo style indicators at demon tweeks, but without the fins, for £45.98 a pair. Saves a few quid.................:Motomartin

That may be a good idea pb. I’m gonna see if I can get some kind of protection over the lenses.

You’re so lucky to get away without breaking one the buggers for so long. Mind you, those Spanish roads don’t seem to be as gritty as the ones over hear. :bow

Or it could be that I’m buzzing to close to the rear of the bike I’m about to overtake :augie

i might have a look and see if those winkers from demon tweeks are compatible.:thumb2

BTW i'm gonna try some ZX9-R mirrors on my HP2S. I’ve been told they fit straight on with a minor modification to the existing holes, and they work well:confused::mmmm

I'll keep you all informed...:thumb2

mirrors

hi all
what would it be like with a bike covered over with bubble wrap.emm :blast
no more hp2 for me ,three weeks to get a service ,fully booked ,double drat, should have booked it in the first day i took it home:mad:...
the zx9 mirrors sound like a good bet . any mirrors must be better than the ones on there ,maybe the guy who designed them didn't ride a bike . either that or he did not go of the track...left mirror is worse than the right .did check out the caravan extended type:clap
the indicators in the mags might not be compatible with the bmw ,need resistors for the flash rate...oxford are doing some ..they could do with being a inch shorter so you don't catch your clothes on ,maybe use them to hang washing off:nenau. apart from the mirrors and the indicators great bike:)

pb:beer:

Do keep us updated on the mirrors, I really am not comfortable with the lack of rear view. I tried fitting the round stick on overtaking mirrors, looked quite sad but worked sort of, lost one second time out!

Went for a bimble today. All was going well, until…..

Now if only i had decent mirrors so I could have seen them earlier:augie

We all recieved speeding tickets + fines for our small number plates :fiddle:rob

What bad luck (lovely pic though!) hope not to many points. I am lucky out here only a fine - no points at the mo................:Motomartin

tickets

hi yonkyo
oh shit ,not a good thing eh . what speed were you doing ??.small plate as well ,that's tight . what can you get for a small plate ??.
its the real crooks that should be picked on and not the bikers doing a few miles over . i was behind a girl/woman in her car friday ,phone on shoulder, brushing hair and looking in the mirror all at the same time , didn't see me in the mirror behind . that's the ones need stopping .
pb:confused:

Yeh Tony, I don’t give a crap about the fine…it’s the points and the cops attitude that suck.
You are so lucky to live out in Spain. I have ridden thousands of miles over there without any problems with the Spanish Police. I love the country and hope to retire there in the future:Motomartin, as I have a few friends already there.

Speed? Well I was making good progress :augieon quiet country roads in Wiltshire, leading a group of bikes and trying to keep below 100mph when it happened.

Wiltshire’s finest feds nicked us all for excessive speed (£60 fine + points) and small plates (£30 fine). We are not weekend warriors or BAB’s. we all ride all year round. (I’ve been riding for 30+ years and average 15,000 miles per year on my GSA:rob)

There is definitely an anti biking thing going on in the UK:confused:. The continental cops have such a different attitude to bikers.

:beerjug:

sorry to hear about your weekend yonkyo . and i agree with you there is something going on in the uk regarding bikes you want to try and have a ride out in linconshire you cant cough before they are pullin you up for the most trivual things. the countrys gone to pot

fines

hi yonko
£30 pounds for a small plate. sad.trouble is we are all targets .i agree the points hurt .and its so easy to pick them up . moment of forgetting going past a speed camera and thats it .. more dangerous keep looking down at the speedo . seems to be now more worried about being caught doing a few mph over than having a road collision .
pb:mmmm

whaaaaaa

hi all
another indicator bike the dust ,parked up came back and another hanging off ,rear left side now ,been walked into ,only left it for 5 mins .
pb:(

Hey, bad luck pb. :blast:comfort
seems you gotta wrap these in cotton wool.

i also have these indicators on my GSA, but they have been fine so far (3400miles).:augie

EXAUST VALVE

Going back to what´s been written about the exaust escape valve, I have just read an article in May´s edition of BIKE about these valves - Quote:
"There´s a small effect on torque at lower engine speeds and it can improve driveability in some conditions, but it really helps on noise - a valve in the secondary pipe helps to take the edge off exhaust noise without compromising power. They´re corks bunging up pipes to keep them quiet. In other words they are not for emissions or chasing HP." They were talking about the new Triumph 675 & where´s the valve on the Triumph? Where ours is..........:Motomartin

NOISE

hi chispitas
what ya saying then ,we get more noise then .:thumb
pb:thumb.can't ride mine till sevice next week ,whaaa .run in now ,be running out for the rest of its time :).

hi tony
i have been doing a bit of digging with regards to the exhaust valve. the technition i spoke to say its in there to help mid range torque and nothing else. he says if you disconect it you will loose a very very small amount of mid torque but it will become a little louder . as anyone tried it yet ?

Yep!

The same thing my bmw-mechanic say's, as does the manual btw...

And when I say manual I mean the Hp2S's Repair manual CD.

It say's:
***"Synchronising servomotor and exhaust-flow control valve with BMW Motorrad diagnostic system

-In the BMW Motorrad diagnostic system, select "Toolbox, engine electronics BMS-K".

- Run the "Synchronise servomotor and exhaust-flow control valve" routine.

- Follow the instructions issued by the BMW Motorrad diagnostic system."***

The interesting part is that it refers to the valve as "exhaust-flow control valve"!

Also, if we take a look at the specifications for the new S1000RR we find this in the PDF-file released by BMW this weekend:

"Innovative exhaust system with interference pipe butterflies for optimum power and performance.
Made completely of stainless steel, the exhaust system featured by the S 1000 RR is designed consistently for optimum power and performance. It works according to the 4-in-2-in-1 principle with four individual manifolds of equal length first merging into two pipes beneath the engine block and then extending into a large-volume pre-silencer. From there the exhaust emissions flow through a very short and dynamically designed rear-end silencer to the outside.

A homogeneous power and torque curve ensuring optimum rideability is acknowledged as the requirement for sporting performance on the road and fast lap times on the track. Precisely this is why the exhaust system featured on the S 1000 RR comes with two fully controlled interference pipe butterflies housed in two connection pipes for the two outer and two inner manifolds, in the immediate vicinity of the exhaust ducts. As a function of various parameters such as engine speed and the position of the throttle butterfly, an adjuster opens or closes these flaps, allowing exhaust gas to flow freely between the two manifolds or, respectively, interrupting the flow of gas. This coordinates the sequence of oscillations in the exhaust gas mass flow, reducing exhaust gas counter-pressure at the decisive point (like on a racing muffler) and increasing the cylinder charge accordingly.

This factor alone makes a significant contribution to the very high standard of
homogenous overall performance offered by the S 1000 RR. "

With this info it's not far fetched that BMW would've tried this on the HP2S before they used it on the S1000RR, in other words the butterfly-valve on the HP2S has the same function as the one on the S1000RR stated above (only the S1000RR has a more refined exhaust).

Back to the HP2S valve. I've tried to run it with the wire disconected and didn't feel much change, but a few Nm of torque wouldn't be felt, only measured on a dyno. And also, I couldn't hear much difference either, but then I was ON the bike! ;)

/J
