Well I am the lucky one.:rob .........I`ve been invited by the nice people at Bmw to pass them £659 plus £ 130 for Bmw assist for the next 12 months " peace of mind " so I can ride my 05 GS 1200 with no worries.;)

I might as well put the £789 towards a new one .........or is that what they want ? :bow

I'm sure you are all mistaken, the 789 is your road tax and insurance for the next 3 years.... BMW are taking care of you...

Frankley if the good fellow at BMW can come up with such a figure we should all worry about the quality of the bikes we ride. I use to have my bikes serviced regularly and pay for replaced parts without to much question, now in Malaysia I change oil and replace bits only if the are beyond repair or are warn out. Bike still runs great and has never let me down.

So put the 789 in your draw and pay for anything you need as it happens, in a couple of years use the dosh to trade in a buy new.

happy riding.

£789.00 gets you a new final drive and a pint for when you've finnished fitting it.

Keep your money and if anything substantial breaks argue it out with your dealer and BW, they're not going to leave you on the side of the road with a bike thats less than three years old 'they have a reputation to keep up'.

Other options are available e.g. Warranty Works which provide a similar cover but considerable cheaper. Haven't used this one myself but I know others who have claimed from them without any problems.

FWIW, I had the extended warranty on a GS1150 three years ago when it was *only* a couple of hundred quid.

The bike swallowed an exhaust valve but my dealer said that BM would almost certainly have paid up for the repairs as a goodwill gesture even without the warranty.

And when I tried to claim the cost of a weekly train ticket into London ( I commute on the bike normally) as per the warranty section on covering alternative transport costs the tossers refused to pay up.

They had the nerve to say I needed to get approval in advance! When I asked them how they expected me to know in advance that the bike was going to break down they simply repeated themselves.

The so-called cover was just a waste of money.
