The Next Best Bike in The World Ever......Thread :-)

I'm not sure about the aesthetics of this 'Not Best Bike In The World', but enjoying the pics :beerjug:
Are the pillion footpegs in a comfortable position, cos the 1190's certainly weren't and that was a deal breaker for me?

Why not use the rider footpegs, where they in the wrong place too?

Or do you mean they where in the wrong place for someone else :D

The problem is passengers get used to a particular position and a test ride is often too short for them to do anything other than notice differences and see them as faults.

Will find out shortly as picking my pillion up from Düsseldorf Airport. But she liked the pillion position back home .

This review is rather good:

“kicks the living shit out of everything!”
HOWEVER, he crashed it in a corner and he wasn't the only one and trashed his camera as his head hit the ground, so no movie.
Too easy to lift the weight off the front wheel coming out of a corner with such power, which begs a question about the traction control after saying, "KTM have fully embraced the electronics?
Can I handle that power? I'm sure that many of you can. Ride safe !

The 1290R is totally stable ,two up with luggage at 130 mph.

Just ridden from Düsseldorf to Adenau and unlimited autobahn for 30 miles straight .Could have gone faster but it was very windy and 130 felt enough.

First The Movie, with plenty of rear wheel slides and lifts of the front wheel to climb over obstacles:

Then, Behind The Scenes with filming from a 16 yr old DJI Inspire drone pilot. Later "and now you want us to go through this shit!":

Does that beat the GS Iceland promo? There was a girl in that which is pleasing and the GS guy's 'pickup from lying down' technique at 2.05 here remains most memorable.

Nice, Köln Dom, great memories from Cologne, lived there for a year and a half.

Latest MSL has a rather good write up (to put it mildly) of the R and thankfully it's a mostly off road write up rather than the usual road bike/touring biased write up :)

I'd love to see somebody jump a GS like this and survive :D [1]

[1] I couldn't even jump my Husky like that................

I was reading The KTM Blog this morning and interested to see KTM are promoting the 1090R as the replacement for the 1190R. The 1290SAR being something else entirely.

The other surprising thing to me was, WTF did they lose the 35Kg weight saving from? Centre stand, plastic rack, smaller pistons doesn't add up to 35Kg to me.

IIUC the 1090 is 35kg lighter than the 1290? In which case it ought to be better than the 1290 off road........that's a big weight difference.

So, is the 1090 based on the 1190 platform and, if so, is the 1290 35kg heavier than the 1190??

It does seem strange Cookie, I wonder if somebody's made a typo somewhere???

KTM web site says 1090R is 207KG and 1290R 217KG (dry weights) so it's 10kg difference which makes sense ;)

Blog says 35Kg lighter than the 1290SAR. At least I think that's what it says.

I'm sure I've read that all the V twins are on a common platform. A different one from the 1190.

Agreed, makes more sense..........

That's how I read it too, I'm still not sure it makes sense  ............ and yes you're right, I remember now reading that the they all now share a common platform (which makes the significant weight difference even harder to understand).

Oh and Arsey, there's also a separate test and dyno run of the Akra silencer which acknowledges that there is zero performance or a significant sound difference for the silencer that "Akra developed closely with KTM" and all for the bargain price of £835 retail...............

Looks are obviously a matter of personal taste :D
