Not fussed. There's always the next trip....

And what makes you think that ? Simply because I commented that the bikes are delayed whilst they do press launch !

If it turns up before April I'll take it,and have booked its first service in down in the south of France.
If it doesn't then I'll take the Guzzi as I've got luggage coming for that too and I really want to it away in any case, and there'll be plenty more trips to take the 1290 away later in the year .
Happy trolling though !

When you guys get your bikes, I would be interested in how you wire in a Sat Nav (TomTom 400) so that it turns on with the ignition. Also, if you have the My KTM feature, how does that interface with your phone and/or Sat Nav such that you hear the Sat Nav instructions but also voice/music from your phone.

Of course, I will also be keen to hear about how it rides! :tarka

Easy with the 1190s. There's an ignition switched live in the headlight shell. Can't see the new bikes being different.

KTM recently released a carrier kit which is meant to better stabilize the OEM panniers. Supposedly the OEM panniers can produce entire bike oscillations when heavily loaded on bad roads causing unsafe handling.

Apparently so...........

Ahhhhh................yes, that is a retrospective kit introduced around a year ago for the 1190's. The 1290's now have the floating panniers as standard, as shown in the vid - similar to the system that Triumph use.

FWIW I've never had an issues with stability, one up, two up, with and without panniers :nenau

You're lucky, Andres. My 1190 weaved terribly starting at 90 when fully laden with panniers/topbox. By 105 it was looking to kill me....really frightening. Made worse by a guy passing me on the autobahn on his toilet doing about 125. :blush Maybe the 1190R is more stable with the 21" front wheel.

Yeah, I remember you saying at the time - you might be right about the wheel size; also the steering geometry on the R is different and, of course, the suspension so maybe all three factors together :nenau

I won't be using the bread bins on my 1190 again after they scared the shit out of me when I was doing my early summer jaunt around Eastern Europe last year. If I need to carry more than I can cram into a 40l hold-all then I've got a pair of Wolfman throwovers that don't send the bike into a weave. Even the top box on its own seemed to upset the handling a bit so unless I want secure storage that'll be staying at home as well.

I have considered buying some Touratech rails (if they're symmetrical) so I can use my monster 50l per side Vern specials if I'm away on a long trip and the added bonus would be that the Wolfman panniers would sit better against Touratech rails if I'm using them.
