The perils of Part Exchange

I've tried to read it a few times. Is the gist someone owes someone else £500 and some panniers and hasn't paid it or that someone has sold a lot of bikes accepts p/x but isn't a dealer?

To me it is simply a matter of integrity, trust and good faith, and whether the bike was sold in good faith.
If you read the posts of the vendor, and his accomplice, you will have to decide for yourself if their posts have the ring of truth to them, and whether they have demonstrated good faith on this riders forum, posing as private sellers while actually being dealers .
That decision will be yours and yours alone.
But if the guy is knowingly selling junk motors it might explain why they dont seem to get further than the local supermarket car park!

well he might be a dealer but nobody is sure so they crucified him just in case :D

I see some big guns have moved in. To save you having to read too much and summarize the story so far; Duncan Arkwright has sold his fantastic cafe racer to Florence. Duncan took a R100GS in P/x which has proved to be a HOS but more importantly Florence has not paid Duncan £500 that was agreed as part of the deal (stating family problems as the reason).

From my point of view I don't give two hoots if the bike Duncan took in p/x was shoddy but I do believe that the money outstanding should be paid.

+1 The Cafe Racer of Duncans was a fantastic bit of kit with a lot of Engineering skill gone into building it...I do think that the Butchered/Bodged bike that Duncan took in P/X was known to be bodged by possibly 2 individuals and if Duncan had known , he wouldn't have touched it with a bargepole...Why has the Guy/Dealer not mentioned the Money he owes as he's reply'd several times to this thread?

The outstanding money should be paid (unless theres more to it that hasn't been mentioned).
Taking in a bike with a noisy engine is always going to have an element of risk. Hoping she'll run like a swiss watch with a bit of a service is perhaps a tad optimistic, irrespective of what the mileage on the clock says - which lets face it, unless the bike has comprehensive documentation to back it up, means diddly squat.

The seller has promised to pay the money and the parts on his return from Spain, I await with interest.

The bike was not excessively noisy my view was that it needed some TLC but it didn't prove to be so.................buyer beware.

I'm working on a plan to get it running properly, after which it will be sold probably without the modifications I would normally do (Brakes, lights and suspension) 'cause buyers only want standard and cheap.

I suspect this thread has gone on long enough judging by some reaction so I think I'll close it, I may restart it if things don't work out!

Thank you for reading.
