I'm going to keep this response as short as possible whenever I get five minutes I'll come onto here and have a quick read most of the time I have a smile on my face but then I come across posts from members that seem to have written my software for me because they obviously know more about my software then I do so I'm going to give you the basic facts so that the keyboard warriors instead of writing posts simply pick up the phone and speak to me I will speak to anybody that has a genuine interest in understanding the work that I do so in brief I do not alter the original BMW Map I install my own management system which was written by myself over 2 years and I redirect the start-up sequence to read this as it's engine management system I'm not going to going to technical information as the majority of people will not understand it i've been writing engine management firmware since 2002 I work in conjunction with some very well-known ECU manufacturers on the race circuit this enables me to have bikes before they are officially released and many more benefits so as I said if you want to know and have a genuine interest call me I will say this I do not have the time to reply to post on forums
Ride safe have fun

I thank you Geoff.
I am well pleased with what you did to my bike on Saturday.
And YES....It really DID do a power wheelie in 3rd !!
Thanks again
S.

Well said Geoff.
One year down from my visit, a full Akro fitted and I am still a very happy bunny.
My thoughts on the matter are its your bike, its your money so enjoy!!

I'm going to keep this response as short as possible ...

I do not alter the original BMW Map I install my own management system which was written by myself over 2 years and I redirect the start-up sequence to read this as it's engine management system ...

This is a different approach than those who merely change fuel and spark table values and your explanation gives some insight, thanks.

You didn't mention the gains this rider got, which seem unusual:

"BEFORE:
80.9bhp @ 7420 rpm
60.4 ft/lb @ 5885rpm

AFTER:
104bhp @ 7600rpm
84.3 ft/lb @ 5500rpm"

That's a 40% increase in torque at WOT AND A 29% in crease in HP. Since the big three variables are air, fuel and ignition timing, and since there's been no increase in air, to what do you attribute the gains in this case?

If you speak to Geoff he will avail you of some knowledge but is suspect he's too busy to play text tennis on here

Geoff has clearly made his point. When an engine is fed 15:1 or less, a mixture correction device will certainly help but a whole new map has to help a whole lot more.

Increase in vibration may be down to the de cat headers rather than the re map. That's what I found when I went down that road.
Mine is actually smoother with the standard system and AF-XiED's.
Ref the re map itself, it's a pity that BMW weren't able to sell them like that as standard.

Can I make a controversial comment !
I put new headers on my r1200gs twin cam with No increase in vibration if anything slightly less !!
It has no cat BUT does have a balance pipe unlike the Remus ?

My 1150GSA wheelies in 4th with my bint on the pillion seat

Thats an interesting point..
Anyone any theories on this ?
What purpose does the balancer shaft serve?
Would the exhaust not be "balance" further along the system anyway where the 2 headers go into the silencer ??

Here's my thoughts:
I've had two of my bikes done by Geoff, and I've been very pleased with the results.
I reckon that the original bmw map does not respond well to the "wide open throttle" dyno run. Thus, we get a poor result on the graph. Geoff's map responds to wot much better, thus a truly representative graph.

To be clear, if I buy another 1200, then I will be back to Geoff again.

Ps. It goes well, but it is definitely not going to power wheelie in 3rd!!

.....oh no what what you done :blast

A balance pipe is usually there to improve low down to mid-range response.

Anybody who claims a 30% power increase for a normally aspirated petrol engine by just altering fuel and ignition is taking the piss. Surely in the OP's case there was something wrong with the bike on the first dyno pull, particularly as the 80.9 bhp is an estimate of power at the crank (DJHP corrected), not at the rear wheel? DJHP is around 15% higher than true rear wheel horsepower. Every Hilltop dyno chart I've seen is DJHP corrected.

Even a 10% power increase would require a risky level of ignition advance. Maybe the OP should check with Hilltop how much advance has been dialled in for his bike. Either that or keep using the Shell V Power and pray that your knock sensors keep retarding the sparks.

What's your interest in Hilltop and do you have a connection with another tuning/dyno/motorcycle shop?

Given your previous posts you seem VERY keen to 'rubbish' Hilltop.

I suspect BMW have deliberately detuned the GS so it wont outshine their other models. They have form - the F650 and F800 twins use the same engine.

On the basis that many on this forum have had their bike remapped and there isn't a single reported engine failure as a result I would suggest the question on ignition advance etc is irrelevant. The point is that people prefer their bike post Hilltop...as did I. I have gone down the AF-XEID route this time more out of curriosity and the lack of desire for another bash up the M1 rather than any concerns.

If the AF route was not open I would go to Hilltop. I confess I do not understand how a naturally aspirated ending can gain the power increases quoted but actually don't care. IF I go to Hilltop again, I will tell Jeff not to bother on the print outs...I will just ride home happy on a smoother, punchier bike.

Is it worth £350... Again if it took Jeff 5 mins to down load the map the answer is yes. It is the experience and development work I am paying for....not the time I spend in his workshop.

Oh bugger, I said I wouldn't comment again...oh well!

I'm glad you did comment. A balanced reply. Thanks. :thumb
