the 'Wrong' Bike !!!!

A good choice Paul. We used an R100GS and whilst it wasn't faultless by any means, overheating and gear lever return springs mainly, it was easy to repair and you can spares everywhere. We had the rear sub-frame braced, pannier frames for Touratech panniers, wrap round crash bars and other preperations done by Ernie at 'Overland Solution' it doesn't come cheap, but he does a fantastic job. I fitted a 43 Litre tank. We were travelling two up so comfort was high on the list of priorities and it was perfect. In hindsight I wish I lowered the footpegs as my knees ached after a long day in the saddle.

If I were going alone I would look seriously look at an Africa Twin, but still consider the GS a good choice.

Some stuff in perspective about the Millhill teachers, they also didn't make it through the road of bones and took a train for that section of the journey. They also took more than a year as that was their plane and 2 out of 5 gave up.

I think you'll find that two didn't finish because one ran out of money and the other had to get back to work. Neither of which was problem for Ewan and Charley boy as they aren't exactly short of a bob or two and were working in the sense that they were making a TV show.
