Then and now…

Interesting read. Love these sorts of things. Interesting to read on one frame of the video that the officer surrendering to the Canadian VC recipient was subsequently shot for spitting at the capturing officer.

I do a lot of research myself into what went on here in NL especially in and around the Hague.
Richard as per our chat on Thursday in the ToR some interesting links.

https://www.atlantikwallmuseum.nl/nl/ (Dutch only)
https://www.oranjehotel.org/en/ - (5 mins walk from where I live...)
https://www.bunkerinfo.nl/p/blog-page_2189.html (only in Dutch)

Maybe worth a trip to some of them. I know a lot about what went on around where I live. There are loads of bunkers in The Hague towards the beaches at Scheveningen. The Hague was the centre of the German command in the Netherlands and SS commander in NL Arthur Seyss-Inquart.
A lot still remains and is open to look around. Parts of the old tank wall is still visible and ironically part still forms part of the Europol complex in The Hague. Even some modern houses are built on top of the old bunker's. Far to expensive to clear them so that's why there are so many just left.
below foto just up the road from me is a classic example - modern house built on the old bunker. Great storage space for the owner. If you get up close you can still see the camouflage paint in places and wooden slat marks used to put up the concrete......

Thanks, Grant.

It would make an interesting alternative jaunt, to go to Holland to see some of these sites. A return trip on the Harwich / Hook ferry would do it.
