Hi everyone,
I had a few hours spare last night and fitted some replacement headers to my 08 GSA as I wanted to lose the cat to free some more HP and give a better exhaust note.
I ended up buying Remus headers from Calsport as the Keihan (my original choice) were out of stock with a 6 week wait. There are a few others to choose from and apart from build quality I think the net effect would be the same.
I'm not mechanically minded at all and with some simple instructions (thanks Sgt Bilko) I had the job done in 90 minutes including a run to halfords to buy some torx bits and a large adj. spanner for the lamda sensors. Trickiest bit was re-fitting the lamda sensors. Left one was ok, pre-twisted the wire by 4 turns and then screwed it in to un-twist it.
The right had one was a no go and had to be unclipped as the wire was too short. Once done up it clipped on ok (I think a tiny bit of plastic that locks the clip may have snapped but it's v.tight and no going anywhere.
BTW, I can't remember where I read this but everyone doing this job should start up the bike with no end can on if you want to put a massive smile on your face.
Sounds fantastic. Shame we can't legally run it like that.
Had a real fight trying to get the centre supporting bolt done up on the rubber hanger as I have big hands and it's a tiny space. OEM end can back on (that's bloody heavy too!) all alligned and tightened, job done
Start it up....
OMG! Sounds ace. Nice deep burble, much deeper than standard. Fairly tame on idle or gentle revs but push it and it gets angry! Sounds like a real bike at last. No obvious leaks just lots of smoke from WD40 burning off.
Took it for a 20 mile run and while I'm no expert I could immediately tell it was revving much free'er and seemingly quicker/smoother too. When accellerating hard the exhaust note is perfect for me, deep/rumbling but not offensively loud. With earplugs I can hear the exhaust note now rather than just engine/wind noise.
Front wheel tried lifting a few times only to be kept in check by the ASC and a quick flickering of the warning light on the dash told me so.
Does it go faster or have any more HP? I don't know, but it feels faster and smoother.
Overall very VERY pleased.
