Lifted fuel tank to hardwire gps to my new 1100GS. Only been out once since (big girl, I know), when it ran like a swiss watch all the while on 400 mile round trip to scotland a fortnight ago EXCEPT when on a part open but constant throttle (particularly going through 50 mph average speed cameras, of which there are many on the M6), when it surged and felt unsettled.

I remember throttle cables not seating on my old 1150GS when I took the battery out for something or other and it running like a bag o hammers until I checked on here :blast :blast .

The cables seem well seated to my eye. Anyone agree / disagree ? Bike was recently serviced and has been VERY well looked after, for what that's worth.

1st piccie is nearside, 2nd (you'll never guess :D ) offside

You should have changed down a gear raised the revs and got the engine out of it's "undecided" fuelling spot. Especially on a trailing throttle.

Carry on, no need to lose sleep.

Thanks for replies :thumb2

Those look like the "after" pictures.

That's kind of what I meant - the cables look fine to me - I was just seeking confirmation that they looked ok to others and wondering if I may have done anything else to upset the fuelling when lifting the tank .........

I tried that, and it would 'clear its throat' momentarily but then surge a bit again the next time I needed to cruise at 50. At the risk of treading into murky waters (for me anyway - not for you 'handy' types), is there any benefit in trying to re-set the motronic doofer and if so how do I go about it ? (I seem to recall it's a very quick job involving just opening the throttle fully twice, but couldn't find a thread on it when I looked the other night).

If you want to fettle?? First do your valve clearances and the Rocker end float PROPERLY (paired feeler guages for valve clearance)

Set the throttle balance ................

If it still surges and you're not happy with the down a gear trick then try changing the plugs for Autolite 3923 plug Linky

And if still not satified get a remus system and a K & N and a chip

That should cure it or Just do what Steppers says and change down a cog! :aidan

i know exactly how you feel matey.since day one of gs ownership my bikes surged like a good un and i,m still having no joy:augie.but like the lads have said valves, rocker clearence need to be set identical, throttle body sync,c02 pot set if there is one, then theres the tps amongst other things and ff your the sort of bloke who likes things to be right prepare yourself for many sleepness nights.one other thing people mention is to put everything back to standard(exhaust etc)but i had no joy with that so im to ebay now to look for a l/hand throttle housing,i,ll try that.despite the SURGE i,m chuffed to bits with me gs and its a defenate keeper:thumb

this any good to you?:

my surging was cured in less than an hour by Steptoe of this here parish when he ventured north to Worcestershire for the day. Top quality.

Glad to help, and nice to hear your now nice and smooth :thumb

That throttle body is for an early 1100 single throttle cable, no good for later twin cable 1100, and completely different to the 1150 models (including the injector).
