I have only recently bought a 2008 F800GS and love it, but I went for a ride yesterday and found that the throttle movement was not very smooth at all.
It's strange because it was fine before.
I know some people complain about the 'snatchy' throttle on these bikes but this is the actual movement of the throttle itself. With the engine off I can't get it move smoothly. Feels like it needs lubricating.

Any ideas?

Were you using your heated grips, I've noticed that sometimes makes the action a bit stiff.

I had the heated grips off.

I've also read on other sites that you shouldn't lubricate the cables?

Does that mean I need a new throttle cable or is that wrong?

had my 08 doing the same the other day, check in the throttle grip, the cable had come out of the guide and had some slack in it which was catching on other parts in the housing.

whip of the screws and take a peek inside

I remember the same from my days at a kawasaki dealership. Don't use an oil based lube. Over time, the plastic sleeve will absorb oil and make it tighter. Use something with ptfe.

Thanks for all the help guys, I've taken the housing off and the cable is routed correctly.
I think I'll give some ptfe lube a go. I did take it on a longish ride yesterday and it seems better after that
