What was planned as a gentle run down to our next destination and a bit of a rest day turned into yet another challenging ride, no snow cause it don't do that in this part of Spain, we got wind and rain.
Now being from Norn Iron wind and rain is something I'm familiar with but not winds like we experienced crossing the mountains, gale force does not describe them and they seemed to hit us from all directions with the bikes getting blown all over the place.
Then with about 100 miles to go the rain started, should not have been an issue with all the kit we had to handle the UK and French weather but Spain had lulled us into a false sense of security with its temperatures higher than freezing so we had started to ditch layers.
Parked the bikes up and headed into a little tapas bar for a coffee and a warm up , (the staff did not look too pleased at the pools of water gathering on the wooden floors under our dripping gear) and to contact Sockpuppet to arrange to meet, sent him the details by text, 5 minutes later he phones me with the news he's had an off and thinks he's broken his leg.
Flexibility was always a part of this trip, we'll need that today to see what needs to be done to get Richard and his bike back home.
Just have to say what a fantastic bunch of guys I'm fortunate to be with on this journey, everyone got involved with Operation Sockpuppet last night and poor old Andres with his superior Spanish ended up spending about 6 hours at the hospital being watched by a couple of female security guards while he waited for news.
Going to be another busy day.
