Hi all has anyone with the R1250gs hearing a strange noise from there engine sounds like its from the right side? It happens around 5th gear or 6th around 3000RPM when the throttle is opened up slowly?(slightly under load) It sound like its picking or a ticking noise. The bike isn't under performing just a horrible noise.
Thanks Gary:rolleyes:

Had a similar noise on my 1250 RT. It went away after I had put some miles on it, and I also started using super unleaded, not sure if that had any effect, but no noise anymore. Mine was a rattling sound like it was pinging under light throttle. Other option, wear ear plugs :) There have been a few threads on other RT forums, doesn't seem anything to worry about, just a different noise.

Hi i tried different fuel made no difference and i have 4000 miles on it now and i would say it has got worse? 4th GS now and this isn't right!! shame its a lovely bike apart for this noise.

I've just passed 2000 miles and the noise has def gone. Take it back to the dealers, although I bet they say "they all do that"

will do i did take a new one out last week and it was not as bad as mine u had to put in a high gear and low revs to make it do it and still not as bad

Yes that was when mine was worse, if in a higher gear and not under load, which is not an ideal way to ride, but during running in, heard it a lot.

Ok thanks for letting us no i will drop it of next week and see what they say. Am going to try and record it as well. its a shame as the gs is a really good bike.

Thanks for that still going to bmw if nothing else just to log it for the warranty

I use to be like this, until very recently, stressing over every little sound, and I can totally identify with why we do it, but honestly just ignore it.
It will either get worse, in which case your bike is under warranty, or it will go away as others have said.
My Rallye makes all sorts of noises that compared to my other GS, (that I really should sell but don't want to), but with recent family illness my perspective of what constitutes a problem enough to give any serious consideration has been changed.
Don't let it spoil your enjoyment of a fantastic motorcycle.
just my 2c worth, typed with good will

my 1250 had a new engine fitted at 700 miles due to ticking, this was at all rpm's though inc idle.
the new one seems ok, few noises but nothing like before.

Since fitting a new exhaust i notice it changes exhaust note with a clicking type sound. i assumed it was maybe shift cam but i haven't put too much thought into it
