Hi all, had an oil leak from the front cover, and removed re sealed not too many probs. My problem regards the timing. I have set the engine with the ost? think thats what it says through the window, but how do i know what position the hall sensor should be set at, and if it is wrong will it still start? Or will it start but just run roughly, and if the hall sensor is knackered, will it run roughly or not at all?????? I'm feeling a bit thick at the moment!!!! Have got a multimeter but what setting do i need it on to test if the hall sensor timing is set?????
many thanks in advance

So,you`ve altered the timing and not known if you`ve used the correct mark, and don`t know the symptoms or repercussions of getting things wrong.
Nor do you know how to use the piece of test equipment you own.

The questions you`re asking aren`t synonomous of a person who knows what they`re doing, and that task isn`t something to faff about with in the hope that you`ll get it right.

Perhaps the only question you need to ask is how much a local Dealer or Independant will charge you to sort it out.

Or where to buy a service manual for your bike.

Tried to post a link to a video that was posted on.....ADV Rider. Can`t seem to get it to work. Perhaps one of the cleverer computer lads will take up and post it for you.they had a few vids on Engine procedures that were quite good.

The video is one that BM do for their technicians.

Go on somebody post it for him......... ;)

Id just like to thank you on your wonderful advice Tarka. The whole reason for doing it myself was the fact that for a service at my local dealer, prices start at 500 euros without parts! I was more than happy to carry out the work, only after reading the numerous threads did i realise that it seemed to conflict and wanted to make sure i was following the correct advice! Sometimes on here people reply with a helpful answer to a question, or maybe if they have nothing useful to add, they keep their worthless rantings to themselves! Just a thought!

For the record, this clueless gser has been out on the bike in question, maybe it was just good luck that i managed to get it all back together in the right order?

Is that the same as "if you you've got nothing good to say best to say nothing at all"?

Bit of wishful thinking on this site ;)

It's the rude abuse in response to pleas for help that makes this site so special :thumb (think of it as the same phenomenon as laughing at people falling on a banana skin)

Count your lucky stars:)
if Tarka had still been a moderator, you'd have gotten a lot more Flack.
As Lou states, be prepared for the pisstakes on this site:) it's one of the reasons there are so many members :thumb
