Hi all, any one know or had experiance of how modifying your bike can affect the warranty ? Dose changing the seats or fitting Hids, removing the cat any one know exactly what you can and cant change ?

I have always modded my GS’s, and had no problems with warrantee claims.

I had warrantee repairs done on my last 3 GS’s with no problems. Even though I had Remus headers, Remus Can, K&N filter, Wonderlich PC and HID’s fitted.

:thumb2

Try claiming on your warranty and they will blame all your mods and tell you to remove them, then after you have spent half a day doing that and taking the bike back to standard and the fault is still there which 9 x out of 10 it will be they may look at it. For what its worth thats my experience with dealers and warranty anyway.

Never had any problems with mods and dealers. Obviously if its directly related to the claim, you're probably on a sticky wicket.

Remember, lots of dealers supply and fit de-catted headers, HIDs, etc. etc.

A suppose it would have to be proven that a certain mod could of affected the item that you are trying to claim a warranty issue against, and alot of claims are down to the individual dealers views....they want to keep there customers happy and try to make them come back and buy another bike from them , strickly speaking warranties could be revoked due to modifications but the dealer doesnt want to go down that line.

Would you be a happy if you got knocked back on your final drive failing because you have a K+N filter fitted.......a think not.

Call me a cynic, but I'm struggling here to see the impact a K&N filter would have on a failing final drive. :nenau

That's what he's saying Aidain me old fruit :blast

:D

As all above- you won't have a problem unless something you've done affects the fault found- same sort of principle as the 'not insured if you have a modification' bollix that people scare eachother with down the pub...it's nonsense :comfort

Could you give details of this, perhaps? Was your experience with BMW dealers or another marque?

I've never known any issues with warranty claims whatsoever with my previous 3 GS's, despite being heavily 'modded'.
