Top 10 mods / bling ??

After 60,000 touring miles on a GSA in a few years, the only add-on's I really valued in the end were:

Sargeant seat (Expensive but worth it)

Garmin GPS (Expensive but worth it)

Ohlins suspension front and back, only after the original suspension became floppier than a floppy thing. (Very expensive but definitely worth it. But only after the original is shot to buggery, not before)

My patent umbrella holder (Cheap as chips)

Muffs (Cheapish)

Sidestand foot thing, to save carrying a crushed Coke tin (Cheapish)

I doubt if I will ever own another but if I did these are the only six items I would even think about adding again.

PS Never had a crud catcher, nor a fender extender whatsit and never applied ACF50. A good blast with a jet wash from infrequent time to infrequent time (and after any salty ride, irrespective) near enough did the trick. Nor some bling lock thing to hold the Garmin.

Some useful additions I've had done...

1. Les Wassall HiD's....see and be seen.
2. Garmin Zumo 660 and lockable mount
3. Air hawk...umm, nice
4. Additional USB power sockets
5. Mudsling
6. Fat foot from Rugged Roads

Not bling....I would call them....essential accessories....:D

You had an umbrella holder on your motorbike ?? :blast

Oh dear God ..... :D

Odd, that's what many said until it was lashing with rain on tours...... It also makes a useful sun shade, fifty million darkies can't all be wrong.

PS I said patent but that was not quite true. I copied it from Mr Whatton, a regular (and much missed) contributor to the pages of UKGSer and all round good egg.

The tube I bought in a hardware store in Provence. ChasMill of this parish has it now. I'll be seeing it again on Friday, en-route for the Dolomites. Enjoy sweating in London ;) :beerjug:

bling

Ive just changed from gs to gsa , whilst i enjoyed farkling the gs in hindsight i was just passing time before getting the gsa and in fact theres not much farkling needed to a gsa, as a result ive sold most of shite i bought for the gs, in short ive kept mudsling, front cruxcatcher, and the garmin, even the sargent seat went (gsa seat is much better than gs) farkling my gs to look like a gsa was a waste of time and money

After fitting a Satnav (which is essential for me lol) forget everything else and get it remaped

Can of worms...

Wow, that opened a huge can of worms....
I've been riding various bikes for lots of years and have over that time
probably bought at least one version of every conceivable gizmo / farkle.
All I was after was an experienced GS owners opinions of what were useful and what weren't.
Your responses have made for very interesting reading, rest assured I won't be parting with my hard earned cash on anything I don't think I or my type of riding requires (daily commute when the mood takes me, regular day off trips to the hills and as many 2 up road trip / adventures as I and SWMBO can afford)

But keep it coming, please...

Having ridden a Rallye yesterday for 100 miles...............it would be

Screen - truly awful in any position

Seat - 30 mins to numb bum

Apart from that, anything else is just either necessary or bling

However the bike didn't inspire me to part with £13k

best thing you can do is remove "stuff".

To improve everything, add lightness.

You saying he's a fat Tosser wot needs to lose weight? :augie

I can't tell the difference between my 2010 GS and my 2011 GSA?

What is the difference?

the reg numbers? :hide

o.k. then;
~ a thick skin.
~ a good (warped) sense of humour.
~ an almost psychic ability to know when this lot are serious and when they're taking the piss. :thumb

The standard GS screen is crap however tall you are and needs replacing. I find the seat okay. Ohlins really nice but expensive.

ive done a lot with previous GSs - less with the current one :

Screen
Ohlins (off the previous bike)
Akro pipe (nice to have)
Rox bar risers
GSA rear rack
TT crash bars
Proper road tyres

Yep, got all of the above, the only 'farkles' Ive kept from all of my previous bikes :pullface

One of the most useful items you can have, as has been proved more than once when on tour, especially in morocco - i've no need for an umbrella holder as have a very small fold up brolly.
I had my fair share of piss taken on the french trip when i produced my small brolly to carry around with me - but he who laughs last laughs loudest. :D
