I want to get a new top box - whats best value and suited to the bike... i was thinking Givi Treckker outback 42l -EDIT or the ARDcase ... any opinions.. - Ta

I have a Givi Trekker 52, plenty big enough. If you're thinking of Givi, also do a search for Kappa, pretty much the same but lower budget so you'll get almost identical stuff and will fit the same plates. Another tip, do a search EU wide on fleabay and you'll see the prices are a lot lower if you buy from Italy, I've done this several times successfully and saved quite a lot of cash even allowing for higher postage.

I just recently bought the trekker 52 for £160 on Amazon. It came from Italy in a couple of days and was the cheapest I could find at the time.

I tried the Maxia off my old RT but it was too "round" and didn't really suit the bike. The trekker looks far better on the GS

Thank you for the feedback, sounds like Givi then Ta
It would depend on what you want to carry in it.
Do you want it to fit a helmet? If so why?
Personally I think boxes that are big enough to take a helmet just look daft on the bike.
If it is just for essentials then I would go with Ard case and get a smaller one made.
The top box on my bike at the Dent do was an Ard case. As you saw, was still attached at the end of the ride.
It has remained attached over much rougher ground than we covered that day.
Roger of Ard is a top guy, he will make you a box in any size or shape you like.
Paul.

Depends on GS or GSA as well. I went for the Kappa KGR52, same design as the Givi Trekker but without the aluminium. I didn't order the specific plate for my GSA as it was over £100, instead I got the universal plate for £35 and it can be fitted to the tubular crossbars on the GSA rack. Can fit two flip helmets easily and shed loads of stuff when camping. Being boxier makes packing it easier.

Givi Trecker is good, but those with the double hanged lids have not had great reviews. It does look too big on the bike but handy when you don't want to take the side cases. Saying that I've had it for two years and used it only a few times. Fitting and removing the Givi plate is a PIA.

The GSA ally box is more than enough for 95% of the time. When its not I put the side cases on.
