TOURANCE or TOURANCE EXP

Ready for some fresh rubber, just got in from a blast and found a nail in the rear, its not worth repairing as about 1.5mm left on tread.
been looking and found some new Tourance EXP's, I presume they are new out, also cost about £30-£40 more a pair than noraml Tourance.

Anybody tried them out yet ??

I've just upgraded from an 07 GS to a 10 GSA. Always used Tourance's on the 07; they were very stable wet or dry and gave excellent mileage. My new bike has EXP's. They certainly inspire confidence wet or dry but I doubt they will give the same mileage.

Normal Tourances are getting hard to find in some areas. specially after the recall earlier in the year. There is a later Tourance EXP that is a bit harder compund than the original EXP, look for the EXP H tourance. still grips well and gives better mileage than the first EXPs.

Well thats what my Tyre man told me when I was looking for new rubber, so far the grip has been fine just waiting to see how the mileage bit works out.

And if you can't find them try some Conti trail Attacks. Good tyre and good mileage. I used to use Tourances but they never came up cheap on eBay

I had an EXP rear fitted to my 1100 just before a European trip and just one word of warning. At the time I had a standard tourance on the front and as soon as I got to between 50-70 mph there was a quite marked vibartion from the front a bit like a mild tankslapper! Dont get me wrong it wasn't unrideable but certainly disconcerting.

As the fitment was a last minute thing before setting off I had to go with it and hope it got better. I did have the balance checked in case this was the issue and it proved not to be so. In the end I rode all the way to the BMW Motoraad days at Garmisch where I had the front changed for an EXP and that was the end of the vibration.

I then went all over Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and did the routes de grandes alpes through France with no grip,stability or wear issues. So if you do go for some just make sure you get a pair!!

Had some Trail Attacks fitted a month ago, now done 3800 miles on Alps trip, THE best tyre I've had on GSA, feel, grip everything, also voted best tyre in German Mottorad test...

Metzler now list EXP and standard Tourance as an OK match. It is in the latest fitment book that came out a month or so ago. I guess metzler have made some changes. My mix of EXP (H) rear and tourance front are fine.

I had an EXP front and original Tourance rear on a rental bike from Dubbelju in San Francisco at the beginning of this month. The front was great for pretty extreme scratching in the mountains but the rear wasn't sticky enough nor did the tread wrap around the sidewalls enough as I found myself riding off the edge of the rear tyre too often.
