I bought an oil filler cap from Touratech and the seal is crap - pisses oil out to the point where I thought I'd overfilled it. I've now gone back to using the non-secure OE one.

Anyone else had the same problem or is it just the one I bought (they are out to get me you know)

I swapped the seals over, the OE seal looked slightly thicker, and I've had no problems.

touratech oil filler cap

I had one one my bike for a bit, ripped the plastic gubbins out of the head when i took it out to put oil in, just didnt work for me. Glued the plastic mount back in and went back to the plastic filler cap

do you have to add the seal from the original bmw part onto the ttech part?

mine is after market - not bmw and thats what you need to doç

just a thought

hi guy's, purchased my s-hand tt lockable cap from nick marshal,he did a mod on it and it's is perfect .talk to him......loz..ps bob what's the post like in spain? :D

I've had 2 Wunderlich caps, and a friend has one, no problems at all:beerjug:

Oil seal

Not the one in the cap itself though.

What's probably worn is the o ring in the plastic cap housing on the rocker cover itself. Is the oil only coming out when the riding along?

If you pry this out, you will see an o ring around it. Call motorworks and order a new one, slip it on, slip it in, no oil leaks.

Exactly the same with my tamper proof cap, takes just a minute to sort.

I had a wunderlich one, went through seals on a regular basis, now back to using original plastic one.

Yes, I'm back to using the original plastic BMW cap - the Wunderlich lockable one always seeped slightly - then I lost the O-ring and had to improvise. The next dealer I stopped at replaced it with the original - now completely oil-tight...

Yep. In 1993, from my CX 500, whilst doing a drop in Northampton. Didn't spot it 'till the oil got hot and started getting through my waxed cotton (quilted, lined) trousers, and burning my leg. Had to call the AA- was 20 miles from anywhere. Got home, rang everywhere to try and get a replacement, only one place in the country seemed to have one, and that was a bloody scrap dealer about 8 miles from where I had initially 'broken down'. Ended up paying a colleague to pick one up the next day, cost me £20, plus a days lost work.

It's not having the filler cap nicked that concerns me Bill.
Just think of coming out to your bike in the morning and finding the filler cap gone, or even just lying on the ground - would you feel safe starting the bike?
Or would you be wondering if some low life wandering home last night thought it would be a wizard wheeze to piss into your engine, or that it would be a jolly jape to see how much sand and grit would fit in?
That's why I bought one - it's a very tempting target to a vandal - same reason I fitted side panels, to cover the 'Oh look - a reservoir of brakefluid held in place with a spring clip - I wonder how far we can flick the fluid around' position of the rear brake reservoir...

My Adv has the TT cap, and it does rather leak oil out when I am on the move. Can't get it to seal at all.

My boots are now two different colours from a year's worth of oil seeping onto my left leg.
But at least the lhs of the engine isn't rusty!

Dont know what a Touratech Oil Filler cap looks like, but a lot of people have mentioned that it's a bad fit/seal.

Do people worry about water getting into the engine via the ill fitting filler cap when the bike is stood outside, (especially in the wonderful english weather, beautiful fine rain at the moment as i look out of the office window).

Cheers

Graeme

i don't -
there's an impermeable seal of loose oil floating about the cylinder head.
