Tracer 9 GT Plus

Had a test ride on a Tracer 9 GT+ today…… I think I will be trading in my Super Tenere! I have been thinking of getting a smaller, lighter bike for a while as Mrs. Longdog fractured a few vertebrae and no longer rides pillion. I have been looking at Ducati Multistrada 950S but this Tracer 9GT+ is rather good!

I went from a S10 to a mk1 Tracer in 2015 as I was recovering from a viral infection that put me in hospital. The early Tracer was a very basic bike in comparison to the current posh versions. The Tracer got me back into commuting and touring by motorcycle as it was so much easier to get in and out of the garage.

This is the only modern bike that I'd consider buying were I in the market for a change. Cracking looking machine.

My only concern was the “compact” riding position when compared with my S10 and my left heel was making contact with the centre stand, however, I am 6’2” and the Tracer seat was on the low setting, even so, I was pretty comfortable on the bike. But what an engine! It is a cracker!

I’m 6’1".
The jk3d seat mod kit makes a difference for about $30 posted to uk. Raises front 8mm and makes it slope less.
I was reading something about the CP3 motor the other day but buggered if I can find it now.
It was basically saying something like if you ask for 50% throttle response, the ECU gives you 70% etc so the power is always instant.
I’ve just ridden the new 1300GS and was VERY impressed with it.
That has 143bhp but I think I prefer the 117bhp of the Tracer. The way it goes combined with the noise of that triple plus the best quickshifter I’ve ever used is intoxicating.
Yes the 1300 is ballistic but it still sounds like a tractor.
I priced up a GS on the configurator and to get the same spec as my GT+ would be pretty much exactly £5k more , though the current £1500 of freebies on the Yamaha obviously helps.
Talking of which I’m taking mine to my dealer shortly to have the spots and rear rack fitted. The latter was supposedly and easy job but is it fuck.
Chucking it down here too.

Yes, I read the same thing about the throttle mapping always giving more than you ask for. I was really impressed, you open the throttle in any gear and almost any speed and it just goes! Remarkable!

Any takers for an immaculate and sorted Wing? One careful owner, I shall have you know. Man needs space I. The garage as wife won’t have it in the bedroom. 🤪

Road the GT+ through bloody floods this morning . Rain mode my arse !

Well, I have put a deposit down on a grey Tracer9 GT+ from JTs Motorcycles in Bridgend, so it is soon to be farewell to my faithful S10. I will have a bunch of parts for sale very shortly and will put them on here and probably eBay to give someone else a chance to improve their S10 for a reasonable price.
I was looking for a Ducati Multistrada 950S but the test ride on the Tracer last week pretty much sealed the deal. Now I just have to choose my £1500.00 worth of accessories aka freebies, from Yamaha!

Good lad . Assume you went for the faster grey/black ?

Ignore. Just re-read your post

Yes, “Power Grey” it is, I cant’t get to like those blue wheels no matter how much I try! So the dealership had 2 silver/blue bikes, one demo and one for sale, and 2 grey bikes, 1 grey bike has been sold and mine is still in its crate.

Will you still feel the same when you open the garage door and see the Tracer, and not the Ducati? Heart or head, you takes your chance.

Maybe, maybe not, time will tell but I am going to enjoy finding out, the Tracer’s motor is a cracker!

One of the Rospa tutors lives up your way, she has an older MT09 Tracer and loves it, she's thinking of a change and was thinking of something adventure bike ish but she loves the engine, maybe she needs to try the new GT.

Off to the bike show on Saturday, I'm sure she'll be tempted by it.

Enjoy it when it arrives

I had a couple of bikes in the frame, I went to Bevans and Riders in Cardiff and they both gave me quotes on part-ex. Bevans really couldn’t be bothered and told me to “sell your bike privately and then come back to us”. Riders were pretty keen to sell me a Ducati and they offered me a reasonable trade-in price and maybe would have increased their offer if I wanted a new bike rather than a pre-owned. JTs offered me a price that blew me away with no nonesense or bartering at all and after a decent test ride and a couple of days to chew it over, it was the test ride that ultimately made my mind up. I will be sorry to part with my S10 but that Tracer is lighter, easier to manage and so bloody lively!

Ali was fancying a BMW F900 but she's always had great service from JTs in Swansea and M&P have an horrendous reputation. That might sway her.

I wish more bikes were belt drive. Must be much cheaper to manufacturer than a shaft, no mess and very little maintenance.

Simply fitting a fully enclosed chain with an inspection window for checking the tension would increase the life of the chain on a touring bike where the couple of extra kg on the gross weight would be less than the weight of the clutter a lot of riders carry around unnecessarily.

I had a Buell Ulysses back in 2008 for a couple of years and I found the belt drive really good, clean, lasted very well and a more direct yet softer connection to the rear wheel. I said I would never sell it but I did and I would buy one again today if a good one came up.

Well, I’ve done it! My Super Tenere has been traded for a shiny new Tracer9 GT+ and I will be picking it up
1st December(ish) assuming the £1500 worth of trinkets from Yamaha get fitted by then. So, I have some nice S10 goodies that I will be putting up for sale very shortly.
