About to purchase anew 1300 GSA TE now going through the insurance nightmare, any recommendations on the best Thatcham approved tracker system.
The Datatool Stealth S5 has been muted !

TIA

I've got this one. Seems OK, I do need to remember to put the fob near the bike when pushing it around though otherwise it sends a text, and they're not unlimited.

Like others I have had problems with false alarms and battery drain on the Datatool stealth that was fitted to my 2020 1250GS by BMW to the point that I cancelled the subscription after the 1st free year and disconnected it. The scroats know where it is located too as they're all fitted in the same place because it plugs into the existing wiring loom, so if someone is looking to have a tracker fitted I would recommend they get something else instead.

Unfortunately most of the companies I have spoken to insist on a Thatcham approved tracker system, Datatool is top of their list 🙈

Mine had an S5 fitted from new by BMW as well as the alarm
I probably wouldn't have specced them but they were there
Had no issues with either
Bike was parked for 9 days whilst abroad and started perfectly
It is on a BMW optimate when at home

Think it might have been in relation to the number of people who struggled to get insurance. The dealer I got my bike from had to cancel 2 new bike orders when the customers
couldn't either get insurance or it was stupidly high

Is there no offer from BMW?

Ironically insurance on my R1300 GSA and on my M1000R were both more expensive if tracker listed, go figure!! Needless to say didn't fit one on either!

I’m experiencing an issue with my Datatool S5 fitted by dealer from new.
Unit is 2 1/2 yrs old. It tracks my rides ok and the app will show where it is , battery voltage etc but it no longer sends messages for movement detection. I’d normally receive a text if I disturb the bike in the garage or move it out onto the drive without the fob. I’ve a feeling that it’s the internal battery has given up. Contacted Datatool and waiting on response.
Last texts I had were in June the day the bike was in the dealers for service🤔

I've never had an insurance company insist on a tracker?

is this something unique to the 1300 now?

You get an allowance of text alerts

Can't remember how many

I have used 2, both times wheeling the bike into my garage

Maybe check how many text alerts you've had

That’s what I originally thought, I’ve checked and it seems I have loads left, last alert I had said 22 left think you get 25 a month.
What’s also odd is any history of alerts is all gone.

Give them a call, when my stealth starting playing up giving false alarms, normally in the early hours the chap in the monitoring centre programmed mine so it wouldn't trigger their system until it was 50m from my address, so it might just be a programming issue or maybe put into maintenence mode of some sort when at the dealers?

When I bought my 1300 the insurance company told me that the underwriter for my old 1250 wouldn't insure any bike over £20k without a tracker

I priced mine at £19999 despite it costing £20k plus a few grand. As when I left the dealer, it devalued by at least £3k, probably £5k or more

I have a 1300GSA and have just run some quotes with and without a Tracker fitted - no difference in price whatsoever.

Perhaps in your own case, you may benefit from living in a post code that is considered 'benign' (or similar categorisation) by insurers?

On a slightly different angle. I purchased an almost new / demo R1300gsa and when purchased the dealer said that as the Datatool Tracker fitted was not a BMW part it had to be disconnected prior to sale but they would give me the tracker to put back on if I wanted. I called my insurance company to get a quote prior to purchase of the bike and told them about the tracker not being fitted but I have it to go back on and when they did a quote to change insurance from my bike to the new bike there was no difference in the extra price whether the tracker was or was not fitted, so the advice was to insure it without the tracker noted on the policy. If I decided to fit it for security then it wouldn't affect the policy.

BMW own insurance were cheapest for me - 0333 234 1021

Didn't know what section to put this in but here goes as I think its a tracker, bought a 24 plate 1300GS from Williams in Manchester, back end of June, asked the sales guy what the fob was on the key ring said it was probably a tracker/Alarm, any ideas? DataTool on Front Scorpion on bac.k

Cheers
