Trams In Rabat

Just back from a quick trip to Morocco (flew unfortunately) but was
very impressed with the new tram system now working in Rabat.

They are in the process of building a similar system in Casablanca
which entails building tramways down the already congested streets,
adding even more to the fun of driving there.


but this is what the Rabat system looks like, very impressive.

Should have got the Moroccans to build the Edinburgh tram system.

Seems they're the same trams as we've got in Nice - built by Alstrom. The Nice system is also due for extension, with the go-ahead for L2 to the airport, followed by L£ which will extend east to the port. Frankly I'm amazed that the taxi drivers haven't managed to put the kaybosh on the whole scheme as they charge eyewatering prices, and throw their weight around whenever it seems that they might loose their monopoly (for example no railway station in the vicinity of the airport)

OK, not really a Morocco section comment, but started off on the Rabat trams ........
