BMW Nav II+

2 Gig CF Card. This was a warranty replacement for a Nav II that I had a 2 Gig CF card in.

The + came with a preloaded CF Card with CN V7. I loaded V8 no problems.

Today I successfully unlocked V9.

I have selected all the maps that I want, total 1.85 Gig and tried to transfer them to the Nav II.

It finds the device, it goes through the process (about 1 hr 15 min) but when it starts to transfer to the unit (that has been plugged in, switched on and Use Indoors selected) after a few seconds the screen on the unit turns blue and up pops the 'Transferring Data' message.

After a second or two, I get and error message saying that the device cannot be found, even though if I try again, it finds the device automatically.

The whole process then starts again.

"Building Index files" etc. and then stops at the same point.

I have the latest Nav II Software Version 4.8.

To make matters worse, I can't just give-up and live with V8 until I can work out what's happening because the V8 maps have disappeared from the unit.

I'm trying again for the 5th time. I've switched the unit on and off, unplugged it, plugged it in and re-booted the PC. I've checked the drivers and all seems to be okay.

Any ideas anyone?

Help! :tears

Hi,

Just an idea but have you updated mapsource to the latest version?

I had no problems putting V9 on my 2610 2GB card. (not all of the maps as the total is greater than 2gb). Transfer takes quite a while!

Also been told by Garmin that the 2610 only supports 2GB max.

Ian,

I've decided to start from scratch and work my way through from the beginning re-installing all the various versions I have on CD and DVD.

I'll see how it goes.

I don't think the issue is with V9. I'm starting to suspect that something vital has been deleted from an earlier version, either I've removed something inadvertently while having a clean-up or something has been corrupted (probably the former).

Well I don't know what to do now.

I've taken the CF card out and put it back in.

I've moved the USB connection to three different USB sockets.

I've re-loaded CN.

I've made sure that the maps do not exceed the size of the CF card.

It goes through this stage.......

then I get this message 5% of the way into the transfer......

It is connected, it is switched on!

If I do switch off the Nav and back on, the whole process begins again with exactly the same results.

I've been doing this for a whole day now and it's becoming tedious.

Mike,

What version of mapsource are you using? Mine is 6.12.2 and it all works fine.

As a diagnostic aid try transferring a very small portion of the maps to see if you can succeed in doing this. This will reduce the length of time it takes to build the index and do the transfer.

Ian, after sod-knows how many attempts, I gave up and used my laptop.

I haven't used it for Mapsource for well over two years, the CN version on it was 6.5 (since then I've used 7 & 8 mapping).

I loaded the maps, unlocked and bingo, so the issue is with my PC.

I don't use my laptop for much, just backing-up things that I want to make sure I want like old family photo's etc. It wouldn't be a bad idea to use the laptop for all my Mapsource needs.

I think I'll transfer some waypoint and track logs from here and then strip all the mapsource programmes out and just use the laptop from now on.

I've got around the issue but I'm puzzled by it (I also hate being beaten by a poxy machine, even if it is down to me ultimately having done something to cause it).

Mike,

Its good that you have solved the problem but you dont seem to get my point about mapsource version.

The 2610 software has a version number eg 4.8
CN mapping software has a version number eg 7.0, 8.0 and now 9.0.

Mapsource also has a version number and updates are required for this to correct transfer errors and to make it more compatible with different cards. I think you need a newer mapsource version on your computer. Mine is 6.12.2.

I agree. I had a similar problem and downloading the latest version of Mapsource (all 48mb of it) sorted it out for me :thumb

Ian,

Got that. Thanks. I'm downloading as I type. I'll see if it fixes the problem tomorrow. :thumb2

Yes thanks.

It looks as though I had managed to uninstall something at some stage! :o

Piss off! :P

(I've got enough problems trying to work out how this new camcorder and two bullet cams work!)
