Some nice little mods... especially for the extended overlander but the way it's packed is shocking. If he bins it or drops it a lot of that stuff is going to spill all over the place and if he has to unpack it all to pick it up and then repack it, which I've had to do more times than I care to remember, than he's added a good 30mins to this arduous and frustrating task. Maybe it's me being anal but I like a tidier and lighter packed bike. I can never understand why people pack so much, I dread to think what he has in the panniers and topbox. Fair play though, whatever works for you I suppose, at least he's out riding.

There's an art to travelling light! He ain't got it, nor have I! 2 night trip solo and I can fill both panniers and topbox.
Reminds me of an acquaintance who went solo for a seven night trip to Germany on a r1150gs, 52 litre top box, standard panniers, tank bag and tank panniers ,plus 50 litre stuffa roll on back seat ,all of which were stuffed to the brim and they were staying in hotels !!!

That sounds like my set-up minus the topbox and a smaller duffle except I wild camp, but even so that's probably still better than having a hundred different things strapped willy nilly here and there. It sounds at least like your acquaintance has it all organised and self contained within a few places: remove the top box, panniers, tank bag, tank panniers and the duffle and he's good to go... a 5 minute pick up job after an off instead of 30mins.
I remember dropping my bike, one of the many times, in some thick sticky mud and had to unload the bike and haul my gear up a hill by hand before I could pick the bike up. I'm glad I had it all organised and self contained within a few bags and not all loose like this fella... I'd still be there picking up all my stuff and strapping it back on.
