I'm trying to swap my y piece for a collector box but I'm struggling to get it to fit. Do I need to take the headers off? I'm trying to push it on from the rear but it won't go. Haven't got my spanner for the header so would be good to know before going down that route. B

Have you opened ( very slightly ) the female pipes on the collector box ? Helps. Also, slightly loosen the headers so the downpipes can swivel a little and hence more easily line up with the replacement collector box. As a rule you don't need any silicone to seal these joints but a small smear wouldn't do any harm and being lubed helps....it's all anal, i.e. a tight fit anyway !!:)

It's easier to take the lot off, put the collector roughly in position, fit the silencer then fit the downpipes. You may need new gaskets for the downpipes where they fit in the collector and you will probably also need the gasket replacing fir the silencer.

Thanks for the advice guys. Guess I'll have to make a trip to my parents shed to dig out my header spanner and leave tackling it for another day. B

its best if you slide the clamps over the headers first aut of the way then try fitting your collechtor box on when its in place then slide the claps over the 2 best usingg some copper paste oh and normaly no need to lossen your headers :D

Finally got the collector box on there, I loosened one header off as the other was jammed but this was enough. Ticks over beautifully with the box on rather than tho old T piece. Very satisfying.

Its a major improvement especially to the mid range.

A tip with the stuck header is to loosen the lockring on the head and run the bike before trying to knock it out.
