Has anyone with a 650 twin fitted one of these tuning chips to make it more like an 800?
Supposedly increases power and improves fuel consumption.
Just wondering if anyone had experience of this on these smaller engines and whether it is a worthwhile investment.

Sorry for such a quick post but I would be surprised if a chip can increase power and economy on one of these engines. As far as I remember they have different cams and injectors from the 800 and while they share the same engine size there are many differences that a chip cannot overcome. Even if it could bring up the power the fuel consumption would suffer. I know I'm sticking my neck out on this so tell me I'm wrong. Jjh

You could try contacting some one like Hillbrow who specialise in remapping. They are highly regarded by the 1200 GS guys. But at the end of the day it will not be as powefull as the 800GS due to the differences in the engine as pointed out by JJH

Interesting.

I have been following the thread about JohnsGS1100 tuning chips on this forum and contacted him on ebay.
This is how he replied to my question about my bike.
"No. The ECU from F650TWIN, is BMSKP. That means, that you would send it to me (greece) and i will reprobram the stock maps in to ECU by a tool. I made many reprograms to BMSKP ECU and the improvement is much better (than R BMW models).
You can see some dyno results at these.
Note that the F650twin has the same engine eith F800, but a lillte small powe. This will be resolved only by reprogramm and when fit the maps (improvement maps) from F800GS-ST.

If you would sen to me the ECU, will takes 2-3 days for reprogram and 4-5 working days to send it back to you.

you will be impressed with the improvements made honestly.

The cost is only 200 euros plus shipping (the cost to others tuning company is plus to 600-800 euros).
Think it please.

This is dyno results. Note that the power goes up plus 15-20 % and the torque goes up from very loww revs until red lines of rpms."

and will be impressed by its great performance. Note that it is perfectly safe for your engine..
J."

Hence my question on this forum for a more independent opinion.

You could try Hilltop Motorcycles. Talk to a fella called Geoff. I had my 800 done in spring this year. Big difference, lots more torque & power. Also plus 3-4 mpg. Less vibes through the bars too.
