Alright all

Got a two night tour of Scotland. Would really like to do the applecross peninsular and a loop above Ullapool. Will be travelling from hull and do not mind 400 plus mile days. Any advice on routes and places to stay?

I/we are going up next week but for 4 nights. To do applecross from hull with only 2 nights is pushing it a bit unless you are prepared to do big motorway haul.

I can send you the GPX routes i use if you PM me your e mail address and as you are in Hull they would not need too much amendment

As for somewhere to stay I can thoroughly recommend the Strathcarron Hotel Bike friendly to the max

We will be in there next friday and Saturday

Oh, I don't know. I rode from Haworth, Yorkshire to Perth to meet up with mates from the VFR Club before heading up the A93/A939 to Inverness and then dropping back down to Skye for an overnight at the Skyewalker hostel. I think it was 573 miles all in with very few motorway miles except to get round Carlisle and Edinburgh and I still felt fairly fresh afterwards on my Aprilia Craponord

Mind you, that was 2003 and I'm not sure you'd get away with some of the silly speeds involved nowadays.....

I guess it depends on the route but the way I go which avoids all motorway except 20 miles of Ed bypass i reckon it is a good 600 miles to Strathcarron and another 20 on top to Applecross. I like big days but .......

All that said one of the Strathcarron locals brother came up from Brighton in a day on a Harley ! But did say the last 300 miles were dangerous and he couldnt sit down

Rua Reidh Lighthouse

Try Rua Reidh Light house nice ride to it and interesting views.

Day 1... Beverley to lochcarron.

Day 2... Lochcarron to Ullapool...... via Applecross...Ullapool...Tongue....Lairg and back to Ullapool.

Day 3...Ullapool to Beverley...via the Cairngorms.

Did this about 12yrs ago when I was 48...nearly killed me. Physically don't think I could do it now, and I'm in reasonable shape for a 60yr old.

400 mile days are ok, but don't forget once up onto the west coast 400mls is a very long day.

That now comes up as a possible phising site !!

If you don't want to go via Dingwall you can go from Inverness to Invergordon and the road drops downhill towards the Cromarty Firth and you get a great view of the long curved bridge over the firth. About a half mile on your right over the bridge is the Storehouse, a good place for a food stop (if it suits).
