So wedgy from this forum and myself decided to take advantage of the cheap brittany ferry return ticket to France last week and have a ride around the Normandy area. It was an early sailing that they class as a cruise due to the 6 hour crossing i guess.
It was a 3.00am start for me to get down to Portsmouth to meet wedgy at the dock for the 7.00 am check in and a trip of roughly the same for wedgy, my journey was pretty faultless apart from 1 diversion due to a off ramp closure on the M1 this just added a little more time for me, wedgey had no such issues until he was actually at the port and queuing to board, all the stopping and starting in the queue had left him with a flat battery or so we thought, (more of that later). I was already on the deck looking back at the queue to board and could see wedgy having to push his bike onto the boat.
Once aboard we met up and had breakfast then settled down to what would be a very calm crossing, with much discussing of the flat battery and what to do once in France, as with it being a sunday if anything was needed there would be nowhere open to get anything should we need to.
So we docked at Ouistreham on time, i got off the boat and waited for wedgy as we guessed he would probably need a jump start or maybe a bump start the latter of wich got him going. so off we trot heading for our campsite not more than about half a mile outside of a little place called Saint-Martin-des-Besaces that was about 40 mile S/W of Ouistreham. It was around 4.00pm when we arrived and by the time we had set up camp it was time for some food. The campsite had a covered outside area for eating and also a small inside area, the food they offer varies depending on high season or low season, during high season they offer a more varied menue and off peak its more of a burgers and chips affair, all very nice though.

Monday, up early this morning to do a little sight seeing, first stop Omaha American cemetary, next would be the La Cambe German war cemetery, and then onto Pointe du Hoc, then following the coast road to Commes for a brew and then back to camp to shower up and have some tea, all in all a great days riding in superb weather and a few places ticked off for Wedgy.

Tuesday, Today we would be heading off to Falaise and then moving on to the very small but very pretty village of Beuvron-en-Auge, wedgy made the comment that it just looked like a film set, and then finally ending up at the costal town of Honfleur, the weather today was just the right temp for riding about 22 degree and all was well, we spent a while in Honfleur and then made our way back along the coast road and back to camp.

Lovely job Lee. When I was last at Sid's do two years ago I stopped overnight at Beuvron on my back up north, lovely village. Is Wedgy's battery ok now?

Oh and Honfleur is great also, lovely old port.

Wednesday battery gremlins back for Wedgy, bike wont start and has to be bump started, so a quick google search tells us there is a large honda dealer in Saint Lo, and its decided thats where we should head for to see if we can pick up a battery, and if they had one we would carry on and see a few more places and fit the battery when back at camp as there was no problems with bumping the bike after being switched off.
Well battery was sourced at said Honda dealer, i will not go into what we both thought about the cost of it and the attitude of said spare parts man, needless to say wedgy was none to pleased.
So i had banged into the nav a route from the Honda dealer to Carentan and then on to dead mans corner, and then to Sainte Mere Eglise where we stopped for a brew, and then onto grand camp Maisey and back to camp to fit said battery.DSC04126.JPG

Thursday today we have to pack up and leave the camp site as we have a hotel booked for our last night in France, we decided to do this because we had an 8.00 am sailing Friday morning and this meant it would mean it would be a very early start to pack up and get to the ferry on time on Friday.
So we packed up and decided to Take the long way to our Hotel for the night just outside Caen, by going via the coast road and calling in to see a few places on the way.
Friday morning up bright and early to the port at Ouistreham for the 8.00 am sailing that was a very calm crossing although surrounded by thick fog almost all the way across the channel and then a thre and a half hour ride back home for me,20250501_120218.jpgDSC04127.JPGDSC04128.JPGDSC04131.JPGDSC04133.JPGDSC04135.JPGDSC04137.JPG
