Morning

Was going to go out for a blast today but I thought I'd better give the bike a once over as its not been out for a month. Started up and oil warning came up. Great. I also looked over the tyres and was shocked at how low the tread was, still very much legal but the rear is really badly squared off too. Its sunny here in the Midlands but still damp and I just wouldn't have the confidence. With all things considered, I made the mature choice for once, back in the house, gear off and make a brew ;-)

So new shoes time and this will be my first time on anything 2 wheels. I currently have the Anakee Adventure on, not sure what to make of them apart from the noise making think a wheel bearing had gone in the early days. I am a touring guy, long trip on tarmac only, 2 up a lot of the time. I know this is going to open a can of worms but if people have a recommendation, I'd appreciate it. Also, I have no preferred place to get them done so anywhere reasonable to Birmingham?

As the low oil warning came up, I thought I'd better go for an oil and filter change as the bike has done approx. 4k miles since I bought the bike in April. I'm more than capable to do this myself. Some research has suggest Motul 7100 5w-40 oil and suitable K&N Filter. If someone wants to point me in another direction I'm all ears!

Thanks all (y)

I'm a Michelin Road 6 user and have used the Road series through all iterations.
Buy the best you can afford for road riding. There won't be huge differences between any of the manufacturers.

I wouldn't use K&N oil filters. Put off by reports of the welded nut failing and pissing oil over the back tyre.

Tyres are such an individual choice but safe to say there's better options out there than the ones you currently have.

I use SMC, very knowledgeable bloke who does a great job and will fit to wheels either on of off the bike. Give him a call to see what he's got/recommends. Normally it's best to book an appointment.

Personally I'm not a fan of K&N so would steer clear of those

If you like the Anakees but don’t like the road noise there is an Anakee road tyre. The adventure tyres do make some road noise but the Anakee road are much quieter. I had to have a tyre replaced on my Tiger 900 RP a couple of years ago whilst away in Ireland. The replacement was an Anakee road. It was noticeably quieter than the adventure it replaced. I always think the GSs of any guise look a bit silly with full on road tyres fitted. Sort of the opposite of fitting full off road tyres on a fireblade really.
