I know this may not be the correct and proper place for such a question but I was hoping for a larger audience.

Myself and a mate are currently in Zagora in Morocco with tyres getting a bit of a caning and wondered if anyone knew of a place in Morocco (preferably in the south) that sells off road bike tyres.

We could probably get back to Spain ok on existing at a push but it would be rather jolly handy if anyone had info on tyres in Morocco.

Ta muchly....Melchy :beerjug:

You're in the right place......stay there.

Did you not get picked up by a fat bloke with a 'tache on your way in to town? He would have been in an orange landy or on a put-put scoot.......if you snuck in, just ride to the edge of town and wave at any greasy kid on a scoot....they all work for Mohammed :)

EDIT......ask at your hotel.....his name is Mohammed 'Gordito" (the fat one)

His garage is one of the last ones out of the town centre heading North, on a track that's 50 metres back from and parallel to the main drag, with a dusty old kiddie's playground inbetween the main road and him.

I can dig out precise GPS coords and his phone number if you need, but that will require a 50 quid donation to the charidee of my choice as punishment for being incapable :D

Enjoy....and buy some dates from the kids on the way out of town, seriously :)

Cheers Bill, so to recap - I need to find a fat bloke with a tache called Mohammed! Come on now! :D

Edit: ta Bill, Gps co-ords not needed. I will now ask the first chubby swarthy skinned gentleman I see if he is known as the fat one :D

If you can't find a fat bloke with a tache called Mohammed :D Ali here (N30 19.374 W5 50.328) will be able to help you get sorted :thumb2

Bloody ridicularse.......I must have a dozen pics of him and us there from over the years, yet none I can find easily......
This is his gaff from at least 5 years ago (2006 actually, i just saw!)......the tree is still there and it gives you a slight feel I spose....

And this is from 3 minutes ago on my desk here....make sure you get some stickers from him :thumb2

He used to be a major noise in the Paris=Dakar prep thing down there, as the rallye always went across the region......a lot of people still practice there, with Zagora as a main base for the proper Sahara.

He does keep some new tyres, but he keeps loads of second hand ones......he can/will order in a new one if you want and he hasn't got it, with a lead of about 3 days (MAXIMUM...usually overnight) for it to come across from Casablanca (main BMW agent there, as well as KTM, Honda etc).

He'll charge as much as he can, but it will still be less than here (he fabbed up a new side stand for a Husqvarna a few years back....from scratch, inc springs, brazed on tags and it all painted black....total cost 14 quid, took about an hour :D)

If you want Euro tyres at Euro prices (and then some) you can get them from Peter at Biker's rest in Ouazazarte......I used to take him half a dozen or more down at a time back in the day...he runs trips out of there.

I have his moby number etc if you need :kissy2

EDIT....if all else fails, there are several places in Marrakech, a load in Casablanca, Sale and Rabat.

Marvellous stuff...remind me to buy you a shandy when we next meet! No mobile no. needed ta as I've heard of his place and will be able to find easily (intrepid type that I am) :beerjug:

Just stuff some newspaper inside the rim... It will be fine...:thumb2

If it's TKC 80's, once the middle is flat you have 2000 miles left on them. Enough to get through France as well.

:eek

I've never ridden mine for more than a hundred or so after they've flatted, but 2k miles? Seriously?

Melchy baby........even if you don't go to Gordito's or the place BHT posted for tyres, you really do need to pop in for something silly just to experience the place.....you'll never worry about breaking down again :D

They've welded frames for us, glued on a detached MX boot sole, replaced drive shafts and even dismantled a car starter motor, removed the exotic alloy (some form of brass, I dunno :nenau) and filed it down (note FILED, not turned it on a lathe :D) to fit in a GS starter motor......they've obtained and fitted fork seals on a Katoomer 990 overnight (all the way from Casablanca) and made a pillion footplate for an ST1100 for a lady who had a badly twisted ankle....(that bit of work was beyond description :D)

They just don't say 'no', they just get it done :D

Rocky took his XC there last month with a badly dented front wheel rim in several places, they sorted it for £40 and did a good job.

Whilst your in there ask him if the KTM 950 is still out back gathering dust, belonged to some German I think who lunched it and just left it there years ago.

Top bloke and certainly had a load of spare tyres mostly Michelin Deserts along with most air filters etc when I was there

I knew a guy who left a 950 there years ago after it broke down, he never went back for it. I think he said "Fuck it" :D

That will be the same one, I seem to remember it had a custom seat on it at the time.

Twas out the back under 2" of dust

If you ask any Moroccan for anything, He will have a brother, uncle aunt or friend who can get it. Not a bad lot really.

Right enough, I came north over the desert years ago in an old Bedford 4wd and blew a piston just outside Marrakech, a local mechanic found a second hand one in the market for me, got me home
