Hi Everyone,

I have two current problems with my 1200GS.

1. I had some new V rated Avon Distanzia tyres fitted last week and now I have a rear tyre puncture. There was a nail in the tyre (on the centre section) and when I pulled it out the tyre leaked air. Can these tyres be repaired?

2. Six months ago the gearbox oil seals went and the seals and complete clutch were replaced under warranty. The warranty runs out in about 12 days and BMW want £659 to renew it for a further year. I have heard that the oil seals in the rear drive are also suspect. How likely is it that these will also fail - and how much will it cost to have fixed? I am trying to decide whether to renew the warranty, so any advice would be welcome.

Thanks,

Dave

Try Warranty Warehouse, £300 odd quid not £659 + Vat....does not cover breakdown ie, getting you to the dealer but neither does the BM extra year so a breakdown cover will be needed. I have my Warranty Warehouse Policy in front of me and it covers almost everything sept rust as far as i can see.

Checked their website but it seems to be US mainland only, have I missed something (quite probably)?

I went through a similar dilema last week when I got the quote for a years extra warranty. After 10 seconds debate I decided not to. Without going off on one £650 (or whatever) means BM don't want to sell extra years warranties - Its way to pricy. Given the number of people who have had these seals fail I reckon you will be in with a shout of getting it done outside warranty for either nowt or at least a reduced cost. Plus there is no guarantee the seal will fail as many more people have had no bother with them.

I've heard that the waranties soffered by third parties have too many get out clauses and aren't really worth it.

Toss a coin - its the best way of deciding I reckon
