My money is on Michelin Anakee for sure. Awesome grip in dry and wet. Only problem is it`s dureability. Haven`t managed to ride more than 3000 mls before they wear out. The going rate is about one set of tyres each 7 weeks at the moment... Have an extra set of wheels fitted with TKC80 but when those have worn out they`ll be replaced by Mefo Stonemaster probably...

J-P you must be some kind of a nutter riding (no offence meant) or have a serious suspension fault on your bike I get at least 20K KMS from a back anakee and I've had a couple already.

That means four times more than you, I know you might think I am steady but believe me when I say I consider myself to advance at a steady rapid pace on most roads. I don't get overtaken much and the mileage I get from a GS tyre is twice as much as any bike I have previously owned.

I have to say when I asked about Tourance mileages I was also amazed to find out that differences in mileages of 100 to 400% were frequent. I think this must mean we have very different definitions fo what "worn" means or there are different types of tyre out there (not very likely as it seems that a given person usually gets similar mileage out of every set of tyres). Weird.

I think you'll find in the US that some riders will ride them down to the canvas before replacing them as the police don't seem to have the same interest in the mechanical condition of a vehicle as they do in the UK. Personally, I go down to the 1 mm mark in the centre of the rear tyre and then replace it. On the front, as soon as one part of the tyre is down to the 1mm mark, it gets replaced.

Just bought a set of BT020, £179 delivered from FWR. Getting them fitted in the next few weeks then will be doing 2k around Europe at the end of May.

I'll let you all know how they perform.

My experience is that lots of high speed long distance riding wears the Anakee and Tourance type compounds quickly. Also different states/counties/provinces often have differing tarmac surfaces with some being far more abrasive than others... then ofcourse you just simply get far more abrasive riding style...say no more...:D

yeah that could definately be the case probably 5-6k of the 9k I have done has been on trips

020

Just had the 020's fitted, £195 ride in/ride out. Did a couple of hundred miles on them yesterday and the bike feels lighter in the corners. This could be me but it does appear to turn quicker on roads I'm familiar with.

Looking at the tyres last night and there's a slim chicken strip on the rear (<5mm) and the front scuffed closer to the edge than the OE Metz that were on before - I wasn't pushing it as the aim of the ride was to scrub them in. Although I'd like to think this was down to my demon cornering ability it's more likely the profile of the new tyres.

So far, so good but many more miles to go. Off to France in a few weeks and that'll be the acid test.

TKC80s

£133 fitted on Thursday. I was expecting low speed squirming that I used to get on the 650, but so far (all dry roads) have behaved impecably. (Getting enough grip on the loose stuff to raise the front wheel now :D )
Restricted to 99mph though..................so sh*t!

Originally said Tourances but like the idea of a road tyre like the Mez or 020..... as 99.9999% of my riding is poofily on road with the odd off road across a car park!

Would like to hear some more accounts of these two on a GS?

Re: What kind of mileage will I get out of Trailwings?

While we're on the subject, what kind of mileage can I expect on the (original) Trailwings? Bikes at 3K miles now and I have a tour down to Spain/touch Portugal end of Apr. I'm not overly gentle with them, but I was expecting to make it to 7-8K on the rear.

Does that sound reasonable?

Reasonable  My last bike 1150GS, wanted a new pair at 3,500, really needed them when I changed at 5,000, to another set of Wings 'cos the confidence in wet &dry. New GSA came with Wings, 3,200 and would like a pair already, the rear is down to the Bars, but I believe slicks handle better in the dry and for bends there is still a bit of tread. I have a new set of Wings ready to fit, I don't know any better

PS. I am a steady pilot and run the tyres at whatever BVM puffed 'em up to at the first service last year. :D

But the rears really Scallope on the edges, as do the fronts.

See Front.

O20's

1000 miles into a new pair of Bridgestone 020's!

Welcome back babies!

Utterly planted everywhere!

Wet weather grip is impressive!

Dry weather.....well what can I say, grip far exceeds the capability of the GS which means leaving half your footpegs on the road!

THE tyre for the GS if you don't go off road.

Do the 020's fit the standard spoked GS rims or do you need the casty things from one of thoses "other" BMWs?

Finbarr.

Its Brilliant!

Highly recommended.

To reply to Motoperu,I have Pirelli MT90S Scorpions on my "best" 1100,which I fitted to replace a pair of Metzeler Enduro 4. I find the Pirellis to be vastly superior, totally predictable and secure, wet or dry, solo or two-up with luggage.I run them at 36psi front and 42 psi rear.
Mind you,my other 1100 is on Tourances, and I have no complaints about them either. They are at the same pressures.I would rate the Tourances superior to the Enduro 4.

yip Michelin Anakee's there the dogs b@llocks give me great feedback i'd reconmend them!dance pize :thumb

Yeah = second this BIG TIME... why are they not on the poll?

I do though want to try TK80's next.

The bike came with Annakee's but having only done 3K their already begining to square off. I like the tyre, they give good grip in the wet or dry but I think by 5 or 6K they'll need changing. I'll go back to Tourances when they need changing otherwise I'll be paying for 2 or 3 rear tyres every year!

maybe you could ask (desole j'y pige que dalle aux ordis...) our garlic friend from nice, can't remember his user name, if he could find out tyre prices might justify another trip out there...

You could try these numbers:
Deschamps Motos (in Nice)
0033 492176800

or Gomme (meaning rubber!)
in Paris 0033145724968
:)
