Personally I would go for the Michelin Anakees. Although Pilot Roads are a good alternative for anyone considering BT020s.

I'd like to know where Dave Hall got his tyre prices from as the quote I got from SMD Tyres in Leigh put a pair of Tourances at £1 more expensive than the Anakees - £175 vs £176.

Tyres for off road & road usage

Hello all

Wonder if you could help. Got a GS 1150 1999 and I am looking for a set of tyres that will allow me to do light off roading (e.g. the ridgeway) but mostly normal road usage. After research it seems that the Tourance are the best options, although I can't tell if they are also good for light off roading. What do you think? TKC80 seem to be great but too off roading biased

By the way, FWR tyres in South London has great prices and the job is quick, although you have to pay attention - they slightly damaged a friend's bike by tightening the wheel of his Tenere too much. Watling in Catford not bad as well.

Cheers

Dino

Hi , On my second set of TKC80's excellent tyre , good grip , wear rate 5,500-6000 out of a rear , had some Metzeler Karoo's AWFUL ! "white lined" from new and made that terrible "Land-Rover drum" , gave them to a mate , he did'nt like them either ! Does anybody know where I can locate a pair of TKC80's in the M/CR area at a reasonable price ? somebody on the site said £133-00 fitted in Stockport area . Regards Glenn (panterg)

Hedienaus best all round

My 1200 came with Tourances on the wire wheels. the rear lasted about 4k miles. I swopped them for heidenaus and these have done about 4k now with lots of wear left in rear and lots more in front :D
I also have a set of alloys which I had shod with Anakees, early to say yet as only about 2k miles done on these , but seem very grippy in dry and wet, similar to Tourances. I do noitce a huge difference in turn in with the Anakaees over the Heidies, which is not surprising.
My G/S had trailwings on, got about 3k miles out of the rear, front would last 3 times that, the increased power with the Seibenrock probably :D increases tyre wear. Changed those for Heidies about 500 miles ago.
Which 'all round' would I buy next..................Heidies of course, they are a 'Look no further'tyre for the GS.
However, for faster road use I would use Anakees or Tourances which ever I would get the best deal on  :

I'm looking for a new set of tyres and am thinking of giving Continentals a go. Has anyone any experience of either their Road Attack or Escape tyres, ie ware rates and grip. I don't go off road so not really interested in TKC80s.

Not much dicussion about Continentals but my second set have proven to be unsettling in the wet!
Both front and rear have stepped out recently, with the appropriate pong each time! Has there been changes in compound?
I am currently riding like a girl! (sorry girls)
Interestingly, each time they regripped, so it's not all bad, but still somewhat disconcerting.

On the subject of Tourances,I have found that I can match the Dukes in the twisties on these, but they don't tolerate hard braking

Just changed my Tourances for Anakees. Initial impressions are that the steering is lighter and the bike tips into corners far more quickly that with the Metzlers. So far, so good! :thumb

I had Trailwings as standard on GSA, never had any problems until 5k when the front noticably chopped. Bike "felt" like it dropped into 90 degree bends at speeds below 30, not noticable at speed - may be just me. Decided to replace them at 6k, rear just over 1.5mm on the centre line; front has 2mm on centre line, but chopped either side of centre line

Had a set of continental Road attacks fitted last weekend to my 1100gs so far so good hopefully get a few miles on them next weekend :)

Battlewings - just as good as Tourances but wear profile is better.

On my 2nd set about to put on a 3rd - 10,000 miles on this set and bordering on 1mm at the rear.

Tourances did same mileage at the first tyre change from original tyres ( Battlewings ).

Metzler Tourance vs Conti Trail

Hey!

I have an 1150GS and need to change its tyres. What's in your opinion the best between these 2, taking into consideration that I use it every day?

Thanks

Just put some TCK's on, brilliant tyres should have done it sooner.

I have used these for years on my KTM, now fitted to my first (current) GS, and are great thru the yuk stuff, and are OK on the black top up to the max speed I want to take the 1100GS up anyway

I've tried bridgestones, metzler, michelin, and have now fitted conti road attack. the michelin annakees are easily the best just as much grip on road as the conti's plus off road ability.
Oh yes the anakkees are easily the best wet weather tyres. So I'm going back to michelin this month.:ChrisKelly

Do all on-road, tourance just getting to 1mm at rear, doing 10,000+ miles/ year on a mix of A and B roads, with a weekly 150 mile motorway run thrown in.

Whats recommended?
