Not hugely technical but......

I have a GSA that I've not ridden and will be on the road by the end of the week.

Now, it has a nearly buggered rear tourance, the fronts ok but, heres my point......

As I'm only having the bike for fun and green laning, country lanes etc, should I get a new tourance for the rear, or go for a set of TKCs?????

I've ridden on the road a lot before on mx tyres on my ktm, so am pretty well versed with how they go. But If I'm to believe the hype, these TKS are something special. Sure the GSA is 150 odd kilos heavier than the Ktm, I appreciate that, |and allowances need to be made....

What say you???

I got mine from Chingford, (universal tyres). £149 the pair fitted to loose tyres.

can't be arsed with fitting them meself.

Ride behind Mr Tickle, Vern or BHT with their knobblies on and you'll swear they have slicks on

In short, ther grip still exceeds the ability of most riders, and apart from the noise and some squidginess (ride them, you'll see what I mean) you'll not notice much drop in performance ability unless you're really going for it.

Its Ok, in fast corners you can feel the blocks move a little, in slow corners you can feel every knobble as it touches down, in the dry there is enough grip to deck a footpeg, a bit of caution required in the wet. I raised the pre-load on the front shock one notch from road tyre and Im very happy with them, fast wear though got only 2500 from the rear, mind it has had some serious abuse getting out of a couple of deep ditches, must have taken of a 1000 miles I reckon, lots of blue smoke

eeeekkk, so that works out to about about 5 sets a year... maybe I'll stick my tourances, at least they last a year.

I used to ride nobbelies on my old DT's etc (many years ago), I presume they are better than in those days.

Or maybe I should find a pair of second hand rims, and fit nobblies to one pair and road tyres for commuting... anyone got a spare set of wheels????

As I said they had some serious abuse most folk get about 4000-4500, the front looks ok for about 9000+ current rear TKC has done 1000 and looks good for about 4500

Went to a shop can be got for £125 a pair fitted the last rear I got from a BMW dealer £65 + fitting = £81

TKCs

Go for the TKCs Iv'e got Tourances on at the moment and can't wait to change back to TKCs. I think they are good on tarmac untill they get well worn when the front drums a lot but go near any type of mud or gravel and the difference is immense. I usually get about 4k from a rear but don't think it's worth trying to get the last couple of mill out of the rear. The problem with the front is that the block tread wears off on the corners it's a pity you couldn't turn the front round to even off the tread wear!

Why can't you, I've done it for years with Enduro tyres, or is the tread directional???

Yep, it's got a direction arrow same as a tractor!! Don't know why though as the tread looks the same to me If you were in Mongolia don't suppose it would matter! But as far as insurance goes!!?

Its supposedly to do with the way the tyre carcase is laid up rather than the tread pattern,on more road based tyres the tread pattern plays a part too

MMM, for the cost of a set it may well be worth just buying new.
I've turned road race tyres for ages on the circuits, with no problems.

But, of course, you dont claim off someone whne you crash there.
I guess the biggest problem would be the insurance should there be an accident, fault or not.

I'll git me a set tommorrow. Now, wheres me bead breaker...........
