Hi guys
Original tyres are done. 5500 miles
Need to splash out now . What to get and where to buy any recommendations welcome.
Road use only no offs for me .
Dry and wet road use with decent miles prefered

PR4 Trails suit me very nicely.

Totally happy with ContiTrails, wet and dry, and they last a lot longer than 5500 miles (unless you're a hooligan)

Another vote here for PR$ trail but Pirelli angel GT are getting good write ups and considerably cheaper

I had my 1150GSA MOTd today . . . .

It failed "Rear Tyre fitted the wrong way around".

This was its first outing since I took the wheel to Strathearn Tyres for a new Metzeler.

My fault, I should have checked it over before leaving the premises (but they are experts and I usually mark the direction of rotation on the disk with a felt pen (can't remember whether I did it this time or not).

Very embarrassing I should know better.

Apparently, when the MOT Tester spotted the error all the Mechanics said "Strathearn Tyres" - so they seem to have a reputation .

Just a heads-up - check that the tyres are fitted correctly before leaving (this cost me £40 to put right).

I would be giving Strathearn a call. They may cover your £40 and it helps highlight that somebody has made a mistake. I don't think they would be difficult people to deal with and they will not want their reputation amongst bikers damaged because they pick up a lot of trade from outwith their immediate area that could choose to go elsewhere.

I recently got a set of Tourance Next fitted at Strathearn, £185 supply and fit, ride in and ride out again. Better still they were both fitted the correct way around

I got 7,000 miles from the last set and even though the back was badly squared they still gripped really well and were still legal.

Agreed that they won't be beaten for grip but they give a very "crashy" harsh ride over imperfections in the road surface.

Loving my TKC70s, done almost 5k miles now and all 2up loaded with tent etc, 4.5k was on a trip out to Romania and in 40c temperatures for 7 days...squared off a bit but they still look like there's at least 2.5k tread left.
And they stick like sh1t

Road and trail but they got an excellent write up in MCN and rave reviews for their wet handling...they look good as well!

Ride in ride out, get a nice coffee in rhubarb cafe, scrub tyres in on the way home....what's not to like

Just managed to squeeze 8000+ from mine. Still grippy but also as you point out really badly squared off.
I had PR4's on the last bike lots of miles and no squaring off

May try PR4's in the future then. Next tyres on will be Heidenuea K70's for South America in January.

Don't want to tarnish the reputation of Strathearn Tyres and the owner Jim, as ive always had great service from him, but...

Same as Voyager, on 14 Sept this year, a mate and I travel up to get tyres fitted before a 12 day jaunt to the Pyranees (20 Sept to 02 Oct),
I got Metzeller Z8 fitted to both front and rear of my R1200RT LC, and mate got a Next tyre fitted to his GS LC.
Did the usual and left to have lunch at the local cafe.
Monies paid, left the premises, and my Traction control lights and abs stayed on. Stopped bike and noticed front wheel fitted wrong way round (abs ring on the offside instead of the nearside, causing the abs sensor error).
Returned and spoke to the owner Jim, who then informed me that my mates Next tyre was the wrong size ( fitted a 150 instead of a 170 rear).
Jim was very apologetic and furious with young tyre fitter, and both bikes rectified immediately.
Like Voyager above, we put it down to not checking the tyres and fittings ourselves after fitment, but it appears that this is not a one off incident.
Worth bearing in mind at any tyre fitting premises, never mind Strathearn Tyres.
Just to repeat, I and my mates always use Strathearn tyres, who have always been very efficient and good value, and I will continue to get them changed there, but worth checking the fitment of your tyres especially if you've had them done recently at Strathearn tyres.
We accepted Jims apology and never pushed for any recompense.

Seriously, surprised myself. From Austia they took me down to the tip of Albainia then back to Manchester (3.000 miles). Then the following year to Bulgaria (5,000) and this year to Spain and Portugal (5,000 miles) plus some fun here. All of the trips have been solo riding and generally keep to reasonable speeds (like to see the countryside) only pushing on when I need to (up to around 90 mph usually).

Speaks volumes about the longevity of the tyre, or my riding style (or lack thereof) - let you decide.

When I get home I will take a picture.

The evidence, front is pretty much worn but there is load of life left in the rear
