I already have two choices, both are very suitable and have good credentials

Its mileage

Current set, Tourances, have been on for a year now and have done near on 5k

Time to change or keep going?

Depends….

If touring, probably nice to have new boots.

If commuting, it’s summer soon so wear them out and then replace before next winter for maximum water clearing with fresh tread depth.

ride until you are 10 miles from being sure the cops will nick you - then replace

2" of gravel in 1 x 10 foot stretches every other 20 yards, and 18" deep potholes are now taking out the sumps and tanks on cars - so we have continuous diesel spills and engine oil leaks for 3 miles at a time (4 in the last week near me)... which all means the age of the tyre and tread depth are utterly irrelevant

I'm just a bit surprised you're still on Tourance. They square off so badly...at least that's my experience.

I know you didn't want to mention brands, but I'm really taken with the CTAs as they just square off so little, especially compared to the Tourance.

I mention squaring off since that can be a deciding factor in deciding, even if there's tread left .

Only went with Tourance as they were all that was available

My choice would have been Trailriders longevity is pretty good, but they do square off

Metzelers are bloody hard, they always have been, they have squared, but not like the anakees that were on it

TBH i dont like road tyres, they appear to have more slick than tread Great in the dry but not in the wet

The Trailriders and Tourance , shift a lot of water and have load of silica in the rubber, and they stick like shit in the wet which isnt a bad thing

The 3's...be aware though they do TWO types...one has a much deeper tread and last longer (I'm just trying to find the code for the deeper tread version)

Make sure you get the V Rated type for the deeper tread!!

I am very pleased with everything about mine, from wet/cold/hot conditions, feel, confidence, longevity, noise, you name it.

CTA 3 (Trail attack) - a vaguely suggestive dual purpose tyre tread. But they last a long time before losing shape - personally, v impressed with them.

Where I am they spend our money destroying the roads and neighbourhoods deliberately (some call it traffic calming )

east berkshire - more gravel on the "unmaintained cart tracks" than makes up the surface of what was once a usable road

as more and more monster trucks take kids to school most of the roads need to be designated one way - what was once country lanes with enough room for a hoddie to do their thing on one side, whilst sleeping grandads went the other way, are now super narrow death zones - with 4 foot of tarmac now hidden each side from hedgerows that collapsed 30 years back - the cure is to drop from the 80mph it should always have been to 28 mph as you wobble round potholes and bits of door mirrors

Yep. Heard similar stories from others about these roads.

It's the opposite in London. You need an SUV/Monster truck just to have anything you'd describe as a civilised ride over all the 'traffic calming'. Then if you're not rollercoastering over all that shit, then the 'truck' needs be a living room with all mod cons because you're going nowhere!

I only have the bike, so suffer it much less. Anything under 10k I walk - it's quicker

That actually increase emissions (the bumps).

It's so retarded, it's not only cars. I cycle wherever possible and cycle to work nowadays and cycled to work (Canary Wharf & East London & Angel) for a few years before Covid. All good.
Then they did all the bike lanes work (that I'm ok with, in most part) but they filled the bike lanes with speed bumps every 20 yards... where I live they managed to put speed bumps in the bike lane going uphill... it's insanity

To keep it in topic, for all round usage, decent mileage and resistance to squaring off, also considering UK roads (at least south) don't require that much leaning support since they lack corners... I always suggest TKC70s.
