OK after a lot of thought I am going in.....
Agreed price & colour etc on a new Adventure...
BUT
Should I keep the std tyres or go for the "Snow & Mud" one's on offer.
Please advise as Sales rep just keeps saying it's personal choice and I NEED real advice!

Metzeler Tourance road.................unless you're going offroad and if are going on the dirt............you've probably bought a bike that's far too heavy.....................

PS my adv came with Trailwings which although i havent has any probs with yet, are apparently not liked...so if you go for the road biased version ask them specifically what they'll be when it comes in.

the only good thing about the 'nobbly tyre' option is that you get a small plastic ' brake pad' that fits where the stupid dangly back mudguard is normally and makes the bike look better imho........
so get road tyres and order the replacement parts for the silly mudguard, I think they were about £8 or thereabouts...

What's the matter with you all, get the TK80s on it, and then come and play in the mud. TKs work out more or less the same price for me, 1 front and 2 backs compared to tourance's 1 of each. The main advantage of TKs is, you can keep up with anyone on road tyres, but they can't get anywhere near you on the dirt tracks/mud. TKs all the time, unless you're going touring.

Agree with Vern on this one. I run TKC 80's all year round and still p155 sports bike riders off on the bends... the only down side is the rear's only last about 4k but, as the man says, on the forrest/gravel tracks you'll be glad you made the choice.

I can't argue with Vern's or Paul's comments on the TKCs as I've never used a knobbly equipped bike on the road, but both the Trailwings and the Tourances are good enough for me off road, which in my case amounts to gravel and mud tracks dotted with deep slimy puddles, and on road seem a good choice for the bike... now I'm just hoping to see 12,000kms out of the Tourances!

TKCs are very good, but I´d go with Johnny B - horses for courses.

If its a new bike then would you be able? to take it off road. Unless you have a fair bit of experience off road I would not even venture up a grassy track alone. I have run enduro weekends and trail riding holidays and have seen first hand what a novice off roader can do to a fairly light bike let alone a bike with a 1 metre wide tank and half a tonne weight behind it. Go for the tourances and get used to the bike before you even think of getting the wheels dirty. Gung ho and penniless go hand in hand. If you think about whats been said...3-4k off a rear knobbly..... you will just be getting used to the bike and its weight etc..if you are then brave enough to venture off road the tires will be shagged anyway and YOU ARE GOING TO COME OFF. Take your time and get used to it on the road first.
