Start off like that, and you might as well write a blank cheque.
i'd be asking the dealer to collect and tell me what he's going to do about it....
Hmmm ...sound advice there thanks.

Speak to your dealer then look at getting the bike to Steptoe![]()
Let us know how you get on, I'm fairly new to the GS scene and am dismayed at the gloom and doom on this site.
With apologies for hijacking the thread - You'll get used to it, in part its due to the 1200 owners whose bikes have not broken not posting every week "it still works", also various 1150 owners like to drop in to gleefully point out how Sh1te the 12 is compared with the 1150. Sadly they do have a point, but if your final drive doesn't go, fuel pump relay keeps on working and your EWS key sensor ring doesn't give up the ghost they are fantastic bikes to ride, I prefer it to my previous 1150![]()

My 08 1200GSA is still on song![]()
Hi,
if you get no joy from our friendly local dealer, give me a call.
Brian

Deal is I get the bike to the dealer (spoke to Alan) and they will look at it and chase BMW for a goodwill repair. Says they are usually successful when they ask and that BMW generally cover 90-100% of the bill. No guarantee but sounds reasonably hopeful.
I'm definitely less stressed than I was last night.
Thanks for all the help. I'll keep you posted on where it goes ...

Just request a final figure before they get too far in If it hasn;t penetrated the piston you could be lucky and get away with a barrel piston and headThanks Jaythro, got sorted out by a man in a van. Seems Hurst BMW are backed up with bikes at the moment but have promised some answers within a couple of days. Let's see what comes up. At least the dealer sounds like they want to help and have promised to push BMW on it. All I can do at the moment is be patient and stay positive.
Since the rebuild I now have a fuel enrichment doofer fitted There's a couple to choose from a recyclizer or an Accelerator module
Basically I reckon that they run so lean the exhausts are red hot especially if the clearances are tight, The closed time is less and therefore less heat is disapated from the head and there is sooo little metal at the joining point Heat + stress stretch = PING + BANG.... Blah blah blah PLus rumours that valves were "outsourced" to improve production rates
Anyway that's what I personally think
