Update on ?fuel starvation

Following on to my previous thread,

I checked the battery terminals ( disconnected for an hour to reset ecu ),

checked air filter, reset throttle before starting and followed the starting routine on my twin spark single.

The bike started fine and revved fine. I let it tickover for a bit and then tried revving the engine. So far so good.

However as soon as the engine warms up, the bike just dies at tickover. Restart it and it will tickover for a few seconds and then die again.

Any suggestions as to what I do before taking it to a Main Stealer?

I'm not familiar with these bikes and their tick over arrangements, but is there something like a throttle stop adjuster screw?

There must be some way to set the tick over.

The tickover is at the correct speed. The trouble is the bike just dies after a few seconds of it ticking over when the bike is warm!

Have you taken the plug out and checked the colour when it stops, is it black !!!

Ignition pick up coil could be breaking down when warm, giving poor spark.

I would have thought any ignition breakup would show itself at higher speeds. The engine picks up well and revs well when warm but cuts out at tickover. The tick over speed is correct. It will tick over for a few seconds and then die. Does the same with rapid deceleration.

Is the bike a single spark or twin, I have a single spark which I am not running at present, you are welcome to try swapping some parts if that is any help. I am in Ilkeston

Thanks for the offer.

The bikes a 2004 twin spark one.

I took it out this afternoon to see if there was any change after messing about with various bits.

It started and ran fine when cold and after about 4 miles I slowed down and it died.
On starting it would run for a second or so then just die. I ended up having to push the bloody thing home!

Hopefully now sorted.
Changed plugs, cleaned throttle body, cleaned idle actuator valve, emptied air box of oil and took half a pint out of tank - cleaned everything as I put it back together and
Now runs as I think it should! Will take it out later and see if it behaves!

Well done,sounds like Reg was on the money with the actuator valve then.
Just shows,don't overfill the oil tank.
