V-Strom 800DE

Is that a pure trumpet jorn, or has it got an air compressor jidden away somewhere else?
I wouldn't mind a bigger horn!
No compressor . Just horn . Fitted them to a number of bikes

Straight swap. Takes 5 minutes .
Same as Denali Mini Soundbomb but half the price .

Ordered Veridian cruise on Monday . Dispatched from Alberta , Canada Tuesday and out for delivery today . That’s pretty quick !

Got home from a week away at work to find a pile of farkles for the bike .
Nipped to dealer to collect main stand and side stand foot thingy.

Took longer than expect to fit main stand , though dealer said it was a bastard and did I want to book it in ? So saved at least £100 labour .
The side stand enlarger even came with a stronger inner spring for the side stand to compensate for the additional weight !

IMG_2841.jpeg

Then I fitted the Fuel exhaust , top box bracket and tank bag bracket .
Took most of the day to do it all .
Sounds great with baffle out .

Very pleased with the Shad tank bag. Never had one but really rate the top box I’ve had on my wing for three years , so got the same with white panel for the Vstrom and then went with the tank bag/ring as was half the price of the SW Motech version .

The ‘docking’ mechanism isn’t quite as intuitive as the SW Motech but the Shad has the bonus of being lockable so I can leave it on the bike and just remove any valuables.

The rack kit to take the Shad top box is a bit fiddly to fit but comes with arms to increase rigidity rather than just a plate to sit on the OE rack.

Fun day tomorrow.
Strip the bike of plastics and tank then fit Veridian Cruise, Thunderbox, UA heated grips and Keis heated seat .
I wonder how many screws I’ll have left over at the end ? 🤔

Dunno about Oxford grips, but the UA ones need a fair bit of filing down of the left grip

IMG_2842.jpeg

Ended up using a wood block and rubber mallet . Oops 😜

They work though .

The right grip just needs all the ridges filing off

A very good video about plastics/tank removal

( click the ‘Watch on YouTube ‘ link’ )

At least-I’m assuming it is. Might be cursing the guy this time tomorrow

This is well timed, I've picked up my 800RE and have UA grips to fit, along with Heed engine bars and Veridian cruise, I've done one before on the other half's bike though.

It’s fine BUT the left metal grip needs a fair bit of filing . I gave up after about 30 minutes and just used a rubber mallet .
Right throttle grip much easier . Just file off the plastic burrs.
Just need a washer to pack the bar end as it’s slightly restricted in movement .
Fitting the Veridian tomorrow .
Bar mount already sorted

Nice bike, but I’m sorry that top box has to go!! 🤣

Well, as luck would have it , it’s my bike and not yours. And I don’t suffer from your vanity issues so the top box is staying . 🖕🏾

Only messing, but I’ve always hated the damn things.
No judgment though. Enjoy 👍
PS. Tail pack cool 👍👍

All done and dusted in three hours including coffee break.

Followed that vid above for panel and tank removal . Separate plastic pot for each label for screws/poppers .

Tanks come off fine though vent hoses were bloody tight

IMG_2845.jpegIMG_2846.jpegIMG_2847.jpeg

Wired in the Veridian cruise . Very straightforward having watched their vid which is on YouTube but can’t embed .

Then routed heated grip cables under tank and in to Healtec Thunderbox.
Panel replacement very straightforward

Sorted

IMG_2848.jpegIMG_2849.jpeg

Then popped out to buy an m10 stainless washer for throttle grip to stop it snagging slightly .
Now perfect .

Will head out in a bit and make sure the cruise works

Nice ,good effort.

I like the fact you can put the cruise switch between the grip and mirror stem, you cant do that on the RE, not sure why but it doesn't fit, will have a better look when I come to fit mine later.

Been out for a spin .
Cruise control works perfectly .
Didn’t bother reading instructions .

IMG_2852.jpeg

The bottom button turns it on at current speed. Press the top + button to increase in increments of 2 to 3 mph.Press the bottom button to decrease in same increments . The centre button turns it off.
If you touch brakes to disengage it , just press the top button to resume at current speed.

Very happy with that for £225 delivered and fitted.

The Fuel exhaust sounds great with baffle out without being too loud .

So that’s farkling done .The only thing I might do is add panniers for a long trip but planning on just using the expandable top box and a roll bag on pillion seat .

I think it’s good value .

The bike and everything on it has cost me £10400 (( No Vat)

And that includes

Main stand
Side stand foot enlarger
Veridian Cruise
UA heated grips
Fuel exhaust
Healtech Thunderbox
Shad rear rack and top box
Shad tank ring and waterproof tank bag
R&G mirror extenders.
Keis heated seat cushion .
Peak Design phone mount.

Pretty much perfect for me for solo trips.Dont need any more power. Range is about 270 miles plus 40 reserve.
The only ‘downside’ is tubed tyres. BUT…don’t bother me , despite the ‘it’s a deal breaker’ bollox on this forum. Never had a puncture in 45 years riding with a tube.Ive obviously been lucky.
Had my KTM950SE for a decade on tubes. Not one puncture . Same with Africa Twin.
Yes, tubeless may be more convenient and possibly easier to fix at the roadside . But if you cut a tubeless tyre you’ll need to replace it , whereas a new tube will see you back on the road .
I’ll just carry a set of tubes with me when away . That’s what breakdown cover is for . Just get taken to the nearest bike shop . Quite possibly easier than sourcing the correct tyre replacement .
Anyway, I don’t do punctures . Can only remember having one and that was on my RKS two miles from home …..😜
