V100 Stelvio caught testing.

Looks good except for the pillion seat being too high/stepped.

Agree, unfortunately it's the current styling trend. Add a small pack on the passenger seat then good luck trying to swing a leg high enough to get on.

How long before Wrinkleyowlie's order has been placed
Normally by this stage, I'd say that the order has been placed but, I reckon the new Stelvio will be some sort of homologation between the V85tt and the V100 Mandello. If this is the case it will be a great bike. I'm fortunate to have both the V100 Mandello S and a Guardia D'onore V85. In my opinion two great but very different bikes. I took the Mandello to Wales earlier this year and it was fabulous on the A roads and the better B roads. However, it was still good but, not as good as the V85 on the smaller unclassified roads. The new Stelvio may be able to deliver equally as well as both the V85 and the V100 on all roads.
I'll not be rushing into an early order without an extended test ride. I love the look of both the V85 and the V100 so, looks of the new Stelvio will be very important to me. That new motor in the V100 is an absolute peach, pity the gearbox is good but not as good as the V85's

But you'll still get one ;) anyway :D:D

The new Guzzi water cooled motor looks like a big CX500 engine. :hide

Sorry couldn't resist. :D

Looks very nice, the engine is really lovely so that will be a great bike if they get the rest right.

I wonder how much ?

Doesn't look drastically different from the Mandello. Just front end and fairing and maybe tank. Mandello tank is only 17 litres which is one of the few negatives for me. But as ding ding says it's a great motor.
Funny the mention of CX500. Youngsters at work very interested in my bike and I tell em its just like big CX500. Cue blank looks. Never mind, ask yer dad.

Any ideas when it will be available to punters?
I would be very interested in a long test ride to see if it would be worth exchanging the v85tt for…..
(once I had cleared the garage a bit)

I bet it’s launched at EICMA in November .If it is I’ll take a good look .
I reckon on sale in March/April

The tank looks very similar to the Mandello.....but it looks to jut out a bit more at the front.
Hopefully over 20trs

I believe the Guzzi and Honda CX engines are longitudinal V twins.
I'd have thought the Guzzi and CX are transverse and the likes of Harleys are longitudinal? I may be wrong. All to do with which way the crankshaft runs?

It's the orientation of the crankshaft. Guzzi is a longitudinal V2, so is Honda's V4 ST1100. Honda VFR is a transverse V4.

Most singles have their cranks going left/right so are transverse, but a few singles such as the ones Honda uses in their ATV's are oriented longitudinal which works more efficiently with shaft drive.

Moto Guzzi believe their engines are transverse V twins. :)

I guess Guzzi do believe it. Honda call the V6 in my Ridgeline transverse ( however it's crankshaft positioned across is in the opposite direction as Guzzi) The V8 in my previous truck was longitudinal.

What are you referencing when you say "Transverse - running across. i.e. Moto Guzzi, Honda CX500" What about singles and V4's?

From manufacturers descriptions they are clearly referencing the layout of the cylinders in relation to the bike, and generally always have done in my experience. On a V twin or flat twin (essentialy a 180 degree V twin) they are clearly transverse, they sit across the frame. Similarly the V4 of a ST1100 Pan European is transverse across the frame. The VFR750 / 800 V4's, V4 Panigale / Multistrada, V twin Harleys / Ducatis / VTR Honda's etc are not transverse across the frame, so longtitudinal.
A single is a single, I can't recall seeing one referred to as being either transverse nor longtitudinal.
