Vines - Am I wrong to feel disappointed?

I went for a test drive in a Landrover once that broke down.

Left it where it stopped and told them they had better go get it if they wanted it back as I was going home and was certainly NOT buying their damn Landrover.

I'd buy from somewhere else if I were you.
Perhaps a Honda dealer :D

That was very bad customer service.

You were test riding one of their bikes and it breaks down. Then they want you...to call BMW. Are they nuts...

They should of sent somebody to pick-up you up and take you back right away.

Did anybody say that they were sorry for what you had to go through?

agree with neil

I'd have left THEIR bike at the side of the road and got myself home.

And i might have even taken the keys with me :augie

That applies for any dealer who said that on the phone while on one of their demonstarters. , not just BMW, but especially one whom i was contemplating buying a bike from.

agree with neil, but would depend if they were holding on to my driving licence or not....

ps. tell us your not buying a 800 from them unless you get an unbeatable deal!

I to agree with Steppers on this one.... Please don't tell me you are going to go back there and buy a bike from them....

Head to Bahnstormers and see what they have available...

I would still buy the bike from them, - but I would be expecting some sort of "good-will" gesture on the deal.

Gee you guys bitch and moan, a 1200 fuel pump control unit failed:eek: Lots of them do , but not every one,you can't test them.If they work on the ramp and test ride, then what do you do? Throw £80 pound at it "just in case" .That diff looks abit funny too, but hey what's £850 if it might fail at some stage.I think we will put a headlight in it too at £200 because they can fail too........................................
Not every fuel pump control unit fails....I'm sure you guys aren't replacing them 'just in case' ,you replace them when they fail.

It's just sheer bad luck that's all, You carn't just replace parts on a whim

Its not that something failed on the bike - its the poor customer service AFTER the failure that the complaint is about

OK, i don't know there circumstances on the day at Vines,i'm just guessing here Maybe they where just drowning busy with out Darren there??? I know it can get silly busy in service dept when the phone does not stop ringing and everyone wants a piece of you...............Recovery would have taken hours,so i think the guy had a win getting it fixed in a hour:thumb

Doing 90 mph and a man of your position whats the world coming to!!:blast

Bought a XChallenge from them at Xmas and found them very helpful

Although when collecting it .....................I chose the usual option and put it in the Van:augie

fixed :augie

neil's right. if they spoke to me like that i'd have called a taxi and left it at the side of the road.

w4nkers.

Forget the cause of the breakdown. Go back and re-read the orignal post - Ref, the advice given to get YOUR own breakdown recovery to arrange picking up THEIR bike .

Seeing as BMW's are so reliable nowdays :augie, maybe he didn't even have breakdown cover to start with. And if he did, what if there's a limit on how many times you can use it in a year.
He may need all the "spare" call outs he can get :D

Hardly the type of atitude likely to encourage a person to buy from you.

,so i think the guy had a win getting it fixed in a hour:thumb

It wasn't his bike. It was Vines own bike. :D

er, at least one dealer IS replacing them BEFORE they fail.

What fecking drugs are you on mate? :nenau

I am a customer .. potentially looking to spend upwards of £7k in your shop. I take one of your products out for trial. It fails .. putting me at risk. The bike in the workshop is not going to kill anyone or go anywhere. A customer on the fast lane of some major highway might get killed! To be told to sort it out yourself would have pissed me right off.

Think about the treatment you get AFTER you bought the bike! What they will do is laugh at you (as if you were a sucker for shopping there). That is exactly my experience with (some) of the staff at this place. I bought the bike because they were one of two places that had one in time for my turkey trip. All that investment in lovely fixtures and fittings .. and they piss it away by encouraging unprofessional behaviour with their staff. What a waste.

It is called preventative maintenance.

The fuel pump relay will cost peanuts for BMW - and labour cost will be a lot less than you pay.

On main topic this is very poor service and if this had been posted sooner it would have made me have second thoughts at my recent two purchases from Vines. (both bikes less than one month old).

Crap service

Exactly.... Vines was one of the dealerships that I went to who treated me like I was a lepper!

Rude, disinterested, unhelpful, and just couldn't be bothered... that was even before I bought a bike.......

I wasn't the only one either as another couple who came in enquiring about a 650 was told to get the info they requested from the Motorrad web site!!!!!!

Thank you all very much for your remarks. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all the contributions! And thanks to all those who have put right those who didn't read EXACTLY what I said. I fully accept a fault could occur without the dealer anticipating it - although, interestingly, the mechanic who had been working on the bike an hour before I took it out did bring the exact part and say "I thought it might be that!" Anyway, as one said, it was standing on a narrow strip of a three lane highway with vehicles tearing by at all speeds attempting to have a converstion on a mobile (try it some time) and being told to arrange my own recovery that was, indeed, somewhat disappointing. And to emphasise to another, it was not my bike! It was a 1200 Vines were selling. Anyway, it's reassuring to know that most of you feel I am justified in my sense of being let down.

As for you, Stigo, you owe me a cuppa on the ferry next time we meet for that! Actually, with your size I'm going to take you along next time I go to Vines (if I do) - that should scare the hell out of them...

Mr Joeknow,

Man you don't know! I can accept test bike breaking down, but how about a little customer service.

I can't believe what you posted. It really makes me want to buy a BWM from you.:( I am assuming that you work at Vines or are in the Business?

Thank you for your kind words unfortunatly i wasnt at work that day, if i was this thead may be different i wouldnt have been able to stop you breaking down but your recovery would have been a different matter, i have looked into what happened and i wont go into it on this forum but it has been dealt with. We as a dealership do check all our stock bikes to AUB standard where all components are check as well as fault codes read from GT1. If there was a fault with the fuel pump electronics or key reader they would have been changed i am very sorry that this happened to you and i hope this doesnt spoil our relationship with you (a very good customer) and i hope you come back for a F800 as you were talking about. I can assure you as always you will get the best in service from Vines. Please call me about this and i will see that you will get some work or accesories, clothing discounted as a goodwill gesture. I am out of the office till thursday but i will be pleased to help you then.
Many Thanks
