Voge DS800X

Went to Bevans in Cardiff today to take a look at the Tiger 900 GT Pro, booked a test ride for Thursday.

Then went around the corner to M&P to take a look at the Voge DS900X.

Quickly came to the conclusion that Voge are cheap for a reason, they're cheap!.

Some bits are obviously good, the engine (BMW), wheels (BMW), suspension(KYB), brakes (Brembo) and electronics (Bosch) are from recognised brands, but the rest is cheap Chinese crap.

The plastics are very thin and second rate, I believe they'd be very fragile, particularly when cold, the crash bars feel as if they'd would fail if you brushed against them too hard, and so it went on.

My wife was adamant that there was no way I was having any of that Chinese shit (her words) and if I was happy with the test ride the Tiger was the one to have and she didn't care that it was 50% more expensive, it was so much better.

Before actually seeing one I was pretty sure I would be getting a DS900X but the reality is that I'd rather have a 2 or 3 year old Tiger if the price was my biggest concern.
If you’re considering the GT Pro have you considered the Rally Pro? It is a much better all round package than the GT Pro. Better wheels, better suspension, longer travel suspension, more riding modes, better bash plate, nicer aluminium inserts. Some say it’s a bit tall but I’m only 5’8” and can flat foot it with luggage on and almost without. I test rode the GT Pro and found it a bit cramped after my S10. The Rally feels like a much lighter version of my old bike.

We don't know, but let's just tout it as the best thing in the world because we've bought one ok?
A bit like when owning a £30,000 fully loaded … what’s the word…oh yes, WankPanzer.

Each to their own.
I think that an XRV750 Africa Twin is one of the best bikes in the world….its not, but I think it is.

Arsey - I was ready to buy a Voge DS900X, right up until I saw it in the flesh. The spec is impressive, particularly at the price, but the reality was disappointing.

I realise the engine and wheels are not made by BMW but are made for BMW to their specifications and are high quality items. The finish, as new in the showroom, was very good on all three DS900X's in M&P but I wonder how it will stand up to the UK weather.

The Chinese bikes are certainly far, far better than they were but I believe they still have a way to go to get to the quality standards of European/Japanese produced bikes.

I also realise that Triumphs are assembled from many Taiwanese and Chinese manufactured parts but those parts, like the Voges "BMW" engine, are made to higher quality standards than the Chinese only bits.

I'm sure the Chinese bikes will improve even further in the next few years, and their prices will rise accordingly, but for now I believe they are built down to a price, like Skoda's in the "old days".

No need to insult my wife, that simply reflects your outdated blinkered views, uncalled for.

JohnnyBoxer - Voge have a 2 year warranty (same as the Tiger 900). Not sure about parts availability but I can't imagine the importer risking their reputation by skipping that part of the business. The Chinese bikes are certainly on the way up and the likes of Triumph will certainly need to be wearying of them.

Apologies . Didn’t mean to insult your wife but was just trying to say that people who still view anything from China as shit are living a bit in the past .

You seem to be saying conflicting things .

You said earlier that the panels on the 900 are thin . Can’t quite understand why as I think they’re very solid , having removed most of them .
You now say that you were disappointed with the bike in the flesh yet the finish is very good ?

I do not think Chinese stuff is a 'bit shit' but giving our hard earned money to China just boosts their economy and their military and the demise of ours.

Whether you like to admit it or not, your bedding, your clothing, your trainers, a wast majority of this stuff, besides the computer, phone, tablet, in your household, etc. all most very probably has been manufactured in or around China, or with Chinese sourced components, etc. if not made as a whole in China.

To keep prices low (because that’s what people want) and profits higher, the manufactures shift production to far east Asia, where labour cost is hugely cheaper compared to the developed world that we live in.

Going off on a slight tangent here.

It is no different to my line of business. There are companies who produce same stuff as I do, but instead of paying UK astronomic rent costs, they produce wardrobes in places like Romania, Poland, etc. because labour is cheaper. They will have their own gang of fitters over here. All living in same house (2-3 to a room and likely owned by the firm) and being driven about to and from sites in a combi van (which will also be owned by the firm) meanwhile they will undercut someone like me, and make even bigger profit margin, whilst paying their workforce slightly lower wage (less accommodation and transport costs) compared to the takings of a “greedy Brit”, who wants to pocket £300 a day after taxes and expenses.

Just my two pennies worth.

Well that's probably not true in my case as I check where everything is made before I buy it and I do all I can to avoid Chinese stuff.

That Chinese stuff is devils work :Rob

No, just stands out a bit due more colour

The bottom line is….you can get x four Ds800X’s for the price of x one well spec’ed Gs1300.
I acknowledge I am an old biased old fart, but when I look at my 1963 Bmw R27 and see the build quality and material spec on that bike and the fact it’s completely unrestored apart from some bright work and its still 100% serviceable and useable. I very much doubt the Chinese machines will still be here in 20 years let alone 60 years.
Like most things made in China, they are a throwaway item at the end of the day, once you get your head around that it isn’t a problem owning one.
