Just a general question on the 1200gs 2 year warranty.

If i was to buy a bike privately, would the BMW manufacturers warranty pass on with the bike?

The bike has just under one years warranty remaining.

Thanks for your help. :D

the warranty would pass onto the new buyer, would need to notify bmw of change of owner and new address

one fo the little maintainance booklets included in the original sale has a transfer of details card at the back...
i got one with my 650, which i still haven't had back yet...thanks for the reminder :clap

BM's are covered by the 2-year warranty regardless of how many owners or how many miles they've covered, but they are also covered by a 2-year BMW Emergency Service cover (BMW's Europe-wide breakdown and recovery package). If you buy a bike less than 2 years old from a dealer then the dealer should transfer the owner info for you, but if you buy one privately do be sure to send the transfer form in the warranty booklet. This is important, especially for the transfer of the Emergency Service into your name. It can save delays if you're stuck by the side of the road in euroland with something broke.

I got my bike from SPC over two years ago now. Had it serviced at CW.:) I told them I didn't have the BMW breakdown cover, as Spc said as it was an import / bought on a day ending with Y, etc.

CW organised it for me:thumb

It's a myth that imports can't carry the BMW Approved Used Bike Warranty when bought secondhand from a dealer. They can. Also anyone who already owns an import (or a UK-supplied for that matter) can buy the warranty from their BMW dealer, although as we all know these warranties are prohibitively expensive. If you buy a used BM up to 4 years old the dealer is supposed to put a 12-month AUB Warranty on it regardless, and at no extra cost to you. :rob
